Calls to mobiles

The Competition Commission has stepped in and ordered Ofcom to revise the figure that companies are allowed to charge for incoming phone calls (the termination rate). They have also been told to factor in the overcharging that has taken place in the two years the current rates have been in place.

Ofcom's plan was for the rates to steadily drop anyway between 2007 and 2010/11 so this will now have to be accelerated.

The net effect of this is that the cost of calling a mobile phone will drop fast over the next couple of years.
