Random high pings and packet loss for random customers

For the last 36 hours or so there have been random high pings and packet loss for random customers on the O2/Be network. This appears to be affecting quite a number of exchanges but not every customer on that exchange. Having suffered myself last evening and today (slow browsing, 25% packet loss and 90ms+ pings) I thought I'd experiment and see if it was an IP specific routing problem.

It is. I changed my IP by way of spoofing a new MAC address and things went instantly back to normal - no packet loss and 20ms pings.

So, if you have this problem and your router allows you to change the MAC address, I recommend giving it a go.

Yes, I also had this last night. Pings all over the place from 70 to 1000 at times.
It seems to have gone back to normal now though.
As a side note when I was checking the O2 status page to see if there was a problem I noticed that they have started rolling out a new fw for the wireless box2.
V8.2.7.7.

The firmware upgrade announcement to our wireless box II (585v7) users isn't new, it started on 23rd August and is currently ongoing as we're rolling it area by area basis.
