Peak Time O2 Broadband Speeds

I am noting that during peak times after 5pm my thruput speed to known accurate speed tests (including the one on this site) that the speed is going slow. Normal thruput 13500 down to under 6000 tonight. I note from comments in the O2 forum that this has also been noted. Whilst a very good service, there seems to be network jamming or contention. Anyone else experiencing this.

Re: Peak Time O2 Broadband Speeds

I've never known a connection that didn't have some slight slow down at peak times but it is practically impossible for an end user to know whether it is the network that is slow/congested, transit links or the server you're getting data from. Unfortunately for ISPs, many customers assume that it must be the network when it quite possibly isn't.

Re: Peak Time O2 Broadband Speeds

The problem for us in the UK is that not only now in the winter do we have all the kids hit the internet when they get home from school and then everybody else when they get home from work BUT also the US schools on the East coast kick out at 8pm our time and generally goes down from there as more and more people in the US logs on.

Also I have noticed some serious congestion generally from the net in general recently and not just some ISP, I think that the predictions of the internet getting "full" may be slowly coming true.

Re: Peak Time O2 Broadband Speeds

Well I have been monitoring the speed using thinkbroadband.com which is a good stable tester good to 50Mb/s, and also doing spot checks on the one on this site.
Noticed a great deal of trouble fri through mon with very bad results after 5:30pm.
However, the recent maintenance by BT/Be seem to have done the trick because this afternoon/this evening I am back consistant around 13Mb/sec.

Can't say I agree with you there. I've found it to be a bit hit and miss.

If you look in their forum you'll find a number of posts referring to problems with the speed tester over the weekend.
