Re: What happend?
Your ping speed is affected primarily by the speed and location of the server you're connected to. Hence why people use the BBC for a benchmark - it's fast and in the UK. The second factor is the routing used to connect your PC to that server. Third would be the method of connection as Sam has queried.
The internet is just a (massive) collection of servers all around the world. How fast it is depends on what you're trying to connect to, where it is physically, the routing used and how loaded it is at that time. Using something like speedtest.net is useless as the server load changes from minute to minute. That said, a ping of 27-35ms is hardly slow. |

Re: What happend?
my speed is good:
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,200 / 9,013 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 28.0 / 48.5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 6.5 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 20,063 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 13 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 161 / 9 maybe it was only good pings while on dlm or sumtin

Ping times and router sync speed have little if any relationship to each other. Your ping will vary depending on what server you are pinging, how you are measuring it and how long/busy the route to the server is - plus how you are connected to your router. Nothing to do with O2 DLM and please don't use speedtest.net to measure pings (or speed for that matter) as it is rubbish at times. What is your ping to bbc.co.uk now? What is the answer to Sam's question? Last edited by Saturday; 03-05-09 at 09:59 AM.. |

Re: What happend?
TBH a change in ping of only 4-5 ms is well within the normal fluctuations made by server load etc and given that most Sky LLU customers would take your arm off for the pings we see on O2.
I'd say enjoy your connection and only worry if they impact on your gaming, pings are only a quick check on network performance and not as the be all and end all. |
