question
as i put in my other post, ive sorted it and im on my way to o2
![]() when i moved onto sky mid,i rang cs to get my max delays down for my ping.they seemed to have alot of problems and in the end i was put on gdmt and capped at 4mb so my ping would stay at 25 to 30.said something about too many errors on adsl2 and everytime they tried to tweak it my ping would come down then go straight back up.cst even set my up speed to 768 instead of the 400 or whatever it should be on mid. what i need to know is do support at o2 actively help you to get your ping sorted??? Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time WAN PPPoA 513646 419430 0 0 0 51:10:14 LAN 346739 452891 0 0 0 51:11:37 WLAN 80636 67009 0 0 0 51:11:09 ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 4096 kbps 768 kbps Line Attenuation 47.0 db 27.5 db Noise Margin 7.8 db 14.0 db these are my stats at the moment.can looking at these tell you anything about what i can expect on o2???? i know its a tall order but all i do really ,is play live and psn. |

Re: question
O2 isn't like Sky.
Pings are usually excellent e.g. I've just tested my ping: bbc.co.uk is 17ms, jolt.co.uk 20ms. With regard to your stats, that's not a very good sync for your attenuation - you've got a lot of line noise somewhere. |

Re: question
im capped at 4mb but to be honest i just asked cst to get my ping as low as poss.
you start to lose me when you say attenuation and noise on my line.will i be able to get it sorted when i get to o2??? im self taught and only had a pc since last summer and alot of what i know ive learned on sky user...i thought i was doing ok with what i had at sky, thats what they told me anyway.ive got a filter in my main socket and phone and bb in that.(short cable).my pc is wireless but 360 and ps3 are both wired. |

Re: question
Yes you're capped but only lightly (ref noise margin).
Line noise either arises in your home wiring, your BT line or both. You can fix your home wiring (usually) and O2 can assist in fixing your BT line - though it is ultimately down to BT, not O2 whether they're prepared to do anything. To tell where the noise is arising there are some simple tests. Once you're connected to O2 and your line testing has finished, post back and I'll talk you through your options. With a "clean" line your attenuation would support a sync of ~7.5meg. If you're happy with your 4meg and just want lower pings then there's no cause for concern. |

Re: question
cheers m8,its all about gaming for me so pings are important but the extra down speed would be nice.if noise on the line can be sorted id rather get it done than not.hopefully i'll get an activation date today so i'll get back with stats etc then.im looking forward to moving but im a bit aprehensive about having to learn a new router and settings.im hoping i can just plug my consoles in and go.all that port forwarding and setting it all up scares the #### out of me...
thanks again for the replies m8 ![]() |
