Re: Xbox live

You reckon? I had both and couldn't see any difference apart from (case) colour and gui branding

Re: Xbox live

Depends what you mean by "static IP"?

If you mean get one from O2 - then you'd apply that to your router, not your XBox.

If you mean a static internal (LAN) IP then you'd need to configure one in your XBox control panel, within the network settings (sorry this is a bit vague - I haven't done this in over two years and my XBox is several hundred miles away from me right now).

Truthfully though, I can see no benefit to a static address in either location - usually you would have a static IP for your router if you wanted to host a website or, say, a mail server but even then it's not absolutely necessary.

And once you head down the route of static IP's on your internal kit - unless you only have a couple of devices (PC and XBox for example) it can very quickly become messy trying to remember which device has which IP.

Of course, you could use a reserved DHCP address (I think all of the O2 boxes support this) whereby in the DHCP settings of your O2 router you would basically tell it that the XBox should always get the same address based on it's MAC address.

But to go back a few posts, I still think the best bet is to use non O2 routers if you want to play games.

Re: Xbox live

Hi Al,

That's going to be a PITA to locate.

Are you connecting your XBox wirelessly? Could you try a cable?

When you say it disconnects - I assume this is during a game?

Any particular time of day?

Have you set up the relevant forwarding rule for the XBox Live ports?

PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall is a good site to look at for help - it can even walk you through individual router / port settings.

Re: Xbox live

Glad you sorted it - sorry I couldn't be more specific with the help but I have to do most of my stuff from memory as I'm working in Belgium with little/no access to my own systems.

Bit odd that a static IP from O2 would cause so many problems.
