Re: Xbox live

Buy an ex-Sky Netgear DG834GT (the white one) off ebay for ~£15 then flash it to standard Netgear firmware (instructions elsewhere on this site). Great router.

With regard to your lag problem, that's an unusual issue to be caused by the router. Are you connecting wirelessly?

Re: Xbox live

the xbox is hard-wired, i found the zoom router had no lag issue when it was connected but unfortunately it cant keep connection for more half an hour, ,i have just noticed that the firmware update has finally cleared on my o2 box, i had talked to cs last week and they had no idea why it had not updated before then
i'll check out xbl later and see if made any differance

Re: Xbox live

Took your advice and got a netgear 834gt from ebay and flashed it, works a treat, the thompson router from o2 was using firmware 7.3 for some reason not 7.4 and while i did query this there was no answer as to why.Although the guy on the phone also recommended netgear??.
Anyway now the ports are open no-one is getting booted when i host xbl and lag and strict nat is gone. Thanks for the advice

Re: Xbox live

Chances are it's his router blocking something.

The above advice stands if you want gaming - get him to swap it for an ex-Sky Netgear.

Re: Xbox live

My own experiences - and those on here, I think - seem to back up that pretty much no matter what you do short of turning off the router firewall (please don't!) the O2 routers just don't seem to be geared towards gaming.

I'd really recommend getting a Netgear.
