Re: New to O2 (may be)

Hy!

Today morning (~9 o`clock) my O2 internet went live. I was waiting for few hours to the activation mail or sms but I didnt get (still nothing). After eleven o`clock I pluged the O2 router to the socket. Is it a big problem?

Here is my stats:

Uptime: 0 days, 5:13:11

DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,217 / 8,121

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 25.5 / 45.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 6.0

Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote): 0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 74 / 554,110

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 74 / 107

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 456 / 62

I know is DLM on my line, but is it good? (How do I know on O2 the DLM is running on my line?)

Re: New to O2 (may be)

All looking pretty good (ignore the FEC errors).

O2 don't actually run anything that could rightly called DLM. More "line testing" really. You won't see any effect unless your line throws up problems in which case your stats will change (noise margin will stay higher than 6db after a reboot).

Just leave your router plugged in and powered up and in a few days O2 will (should) contact you to say they've finished the testing. If there's a problem they'll tell you.

Re: New to O2 (may be)

Thanks your fast reply Saturday!

If it stays and will be stable this speed, Im get duble of speed as sky gave me.

I have one more question if no problem. Why my line attenuation changed to 45? I always had with sky daily 43 or evening 44. If I know good is it mean how far I live from exchange?! (My house may be moved. )

Re: New to O2 (may be)

Attenuation is as you say related to line length but it also depends on the frequency being measured (and the router measuring it).

I'd guess with Sky you were on G.DMT (aka ADSL1) but now with O2 you're on ADSL2+. This uses higher frequencies than G.DMT so affects the attenuation reading - typically showing as a 2-3db increase.

Re: New to O2 (may be)

Ive got an email from o2 ( May 15th ) which said that my line test has finished.

However I have three problems.

1. My sync speed always shows different in the router. ( Maybe my line is still under the test? )

2. My router daily reboots itself with this error message in the log: KERNEL Warm restart (red sign)

Can it be a router fault?

3. When I start to download (like nvidia softver) its "thinking a lot" before doing anything. When the downloading starts it either very slow ( about 14-20 kbps ) or its starts with a reasonable ( but still a bit slow for me ) 300kbps which starts dropping till 30-40kbps. I already downloaded with 700kbps or so(when everything fine), so im a bit frustrated that I have this low speed now.
And Ive got same problems with streaming as well...

Lajos

Re: New to O2 (may be)

Your sync speed will always be different if the router is rebooting as the new sync depends on the prevailing noise on the line which will vary from hour to hour.

The error doesn't sound good and yes, maybe you have a faulty router. I'd recommend calling O2 and going through your issues with one of the technical support team.
