and just another quick question- my line attentuation has changed from 44.5 to 41.0. is that normal for your line attentuation to fluctuate?

Re: supposed to be connected today!
The above two questions are linked - and so are the answers:
G.992.5 is ADSL2+, G.992.3 is ADSL2. Why O2 would have moved you (or possibly why your router has selected this mode) is hard to say. Could be your particular line characteristics favour ADSL2. Reboot your router and see if it reverts back to ADSL2+. ADSL2+ uses a wider frequency set than ADSL2. Attenuation is a measure for a particular frequency. Change ADSL modes and your attenuation reading will change (higher for higher frequencies). For the same ADSL mode the attenuation reading should be static but may appear to move by 0.5db or so down to rounding issues. If it moves more than that for the same ADSL mode then it means your line characteristics have changed. |

Thanks for that, i wouldn't have had a clue! And i have rebooted the router a couple of times (the wireless kept dropping out) and that made no difference. Is there a way of selecting ADSL2+ manually, or would O2 have to do that? Thanks |

Re: supposed to be connected today!
Most routers are set to what is often called "multimode". This means the router selects the most suitable ADSL mode for the line conditions - or it should do. In reality it normally selects the fastest mode available (ADSL2+). If yours is syncing ADSL2 then that would suggest that O2 have limited your mode to ADSL2, which you can't override in the router.
You could always call them up amd ask what's going on, but the answer is likely to be DLM. I'd suggest leaving things for a few days until O2 let you know your line has finished testing. |
