supposed to be connected today!
Hey all,
O2 sent me a text earlier on today and said that my line had been activated. O2 box didnt connect to internet! DSL error? went through usual tech, got put through to second line support, apparently there is a fault on my line? Said that he would get an engineer to do something in the exchange, but didnt give me a timescale.. Does anyone know what the engineer would be doing? and the timescales involved? |

Re: supposed to be connected today!
O2 are reliant on BT engineers to set up the exchange equipment - sounds to me like something may have gone wrong.
It's going to be down to scheduling I guess as to when it gets fixed. I think within 24h would be the norm but we're about to go into a long weekend so that might impact the timescales. Call again and ask for an update. |

Re: supposed to be connected today!
Hey, thanks saturday. Asked o2 whether an engineer would need to visit my house, they said no. 2 hours later, an engineer turned up! The BT line was disconnected in so many places.. port from outside coming into house, BT telegraph pole, and street cabinet! Got it sorted now though. Could you have a quick look at these stats? I was told i would be getting 10 to 12 meg, and getting under 8 meg!

Re: supposed to be connected today!
Nope you have the max for your line...maybe a bit more can be squeezed but if it worth making it unstable??

10 -12meg isn't really possible with your attenuation I'm afraid. Something around 9meg would be the best you could reasonably hope for. Try a connection in your master test socket if you have one. What you get there will tell you the maximum that's easily achievable on your line. Last edited by Saturday; 22-05-09 at 04:39 PM.. |

Re: supposed to be connected today!
O2 can only give you an estimate based on the info BT give them before you're connected. If you're referring to the "half" being the speedtest result then first, speedtests (and that one in particular) are notoriously inaccurate and second the speed that ISP's state is the router sync speed not throughput. Throughput is dependent on many things outside the ISP's control and in any case is subject to a 15-20% transmission overhead.
If you're running on an extension then that sync is probably all you'll get. All I can suggest is that you could consider disconnecting the ring wire to see if that improves things. However, I doubt other than speedtests that you'd notice the difference between 7.75meg and 9meg - just enjoy what you've got (you seem annoyed). It's far higher than most people in the country have and for the money O2 charge it's an absolute bargain. |
