From Virgin to O2 via Sky

Hi all - I'm a new O2 Broadband customer--should be activated on Monday.

I was with Telewest for years, which then became Virgin and last October the 20mbps line I was on started to perform at around 1mbps. Endless calls and emails to the so-called "technical support" team at VM were fruitless. So last month I told them to go jump and moved to Sky for phone and TV.

I was also going to get the SkyMax broadband. But once my phone was set up, Sky insisted that I could only get a maximum of 8mbps; even though the local exchange has Sky ADSL2+ kit and I am about 650metres from the exchange.

So, called up O2, got the 20mbps pack for under a tenner a month and I had the documentation and router within 2 days. Now I'm just waiting for the activation date - Monday - to see if I get the expected 16-18mbps speed

Re: From Virgin to O2 via Sky

Welcome

Sky will have predicted your sync speed based on data provided by BT about your line condition. Although notoriously inaccurate there is a chance you have a line problem which will affect ADSL. whether O2 or otherwise.

Let's see what you get when connected and then we can talk you through anything you might need to do to improve things.
