Draytek Vigor 2800 Router Compatible?

Hi,

I just started using o2 Premium package. Am quite impressed with the speed so far but not with the Wireless range of the supplied wireless router.

Could I use a Draytek Vigor 2800 instead as it is adsl2 ready?

Thanks.

If it is ADSL2+ then that should be fine. Try it and see - O2 have no problems with customers using their own routers, other than they can't offer support for them.

Re: Draytek Vigor 2800 Router Compatible?

Of course, another way around this would be:
  • Disable the wireless on your O2 router
Enable the wireless on your Draytek and give it an IP address in the same range as the O2 router (e.g. if the O2 router is 192.168.1.254 then give the Draytek 192.168.1.253)
Plug the Draytek router into the O2 router with a short RJ45 cable (might need a crossover cable, but not likely these days)
Ensure that if you use DHCP. it is enabled on the O2 router and disabled on the Draytek
You might want to disable the firewall on the Draytek if it has one.

You should find now that you still connect via your O2 router with the added range of the Draytek and don't need to worry about the Draytek not being ADSL 2+

I don't know if it's an easier option for some people than trying to simply replace the O2 router?

Another solution that I used in the past was to use homeplugs to connect the two routers in different parts of my house and leave the wireless enabled on them both, with the same settings (SSID, WPA keys etc) - seamless connection to the strongest signal.

If you did decide to do that, then all of the above steps are still valid but you wouldn't disable the wireless on the O2 router.
