Re: router.
A quirk of the O2 box - it reports the exchange gateway as a device.

Re: router.
Everything looks fine other than your sync is a little low for your attenuation and I'd guess you have some line noise present. If you sorted that out you'd see another meg or so.

Re: router.
what can i do to sort it?ive done the quite test on the phone and it all seems ok,no crackling or popping.ive no extensions.will it matter if i try a different filter(i got the sky one in),or plug into the test socket while line testing is on or will it mess it all up??
edit. i just changed filter and it seems to be syncing a little higher, dont want to mess too much but a few tips on what i could do to get the best out of it would be greatly appreciated. Re: router.
The occasional reboot won't bother the line testing but maybe it's best to leave your testing until it has finished.
Yes, the first thing to try would be your test socket. Any improvements you see there can be easily replicated by improving wiring/filtering. No improvement means the noise is in your BT line (and they won't do anything unless it impacts voice). A small improvement leaves you the choice of whether you want to spend time and money seeking a small speed gain that I doubt you'd notice in everyday use. When you changed the filter you caused a resync. You did that at a low noise time of day and that's why your sync was higher - doubt it's anything to do with the filter. Re: router.
im not gonna fanny about while testings on,sometimes when i make a call i can hardly hear the other person, just now it was perfect.could my phone be messing with it,its a bit knackered cos my little lad is always getting hold of it???
to be honest im happy with it all right now,my ping is low,my up speed is double sky as is my down so any more will be a bonus but im not stressing over it. cant understand it cos sky said my line couldnt handle adsl2+. any tweaks youve got for me will help though,im teaching myself and i only got a pc last october(scared of them)lol ![]() |

Re: router.
ive been playing about with my netgear router and i like the extra things you can do with it but im having problems reading the errors on the dmt tool.i had my profile put down to 3db just to see what the router was like handleing it,but cos i cant read the errors properly im not sure.
i decided to put the o2 box back on and it wont connect on adsl2+,only on adsl2..ie... Uptime: 0 days, 0:01:01 DSL Type: G.992.3 annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,235 / 7,220 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 25.5 / 44.0 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 3.5 / 3.5 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 14,831 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 292 / 1 the thing is,its got the best sync ive ever had and the least amount of errors.would i be loosing much by being on adsl2 rather than 2+??ive tried to google it to find out but its all tech stuff and doesnt get me a straight answer.is adsl2 with less errors better than2+ with a lower sync.i know the snr is low for my line its just that to my novice eyes that its the best its been.... p.s the only difference i seem to be able to find is 2+ can get you faster speeds...ie 24mb. Re: router.
That exchange gateway showing threw me for a while too until I realised what it was!
Because I use a windows server as a DHCP server, I started to manually putting the names of attached devices in, per their mac addresses, but I stopped when I went through the mysterious reboots and flash-wipes that meant I was forever doing it again and again. Certainly doesn't hurt anything since I only use the O2 box's DNS for internet lookups and nothing internal. Got to say that these boxes aren't the most intuitive I've ever used from a GUI perspective!

Re: router.
Sorry Andy - my post was meant to get a bit more relevant! When you asked about making calls...this over VoIP? Who's your provider? Using the O2 router as an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adaptor)?
Whenever I've had line problems it's been down to one of two things: I forgot I had a large download running in the background (updates etc) somewhere or the timing on my PBX gets out of synch due to it being virtualised. A quick reboot of my PBX solves it.
