Re: open dns
From memory ( I don't use the O2 Box) you can't alter the DNS settings - could be wrong though.
Changing it in the PC/xbox should override the router. Instructions here (put the same entries in the DNS section of your Xbox dashboard): https://www.opendns.com/start/computer/ |

Re: open dns
Ah - that's for advanced usage if you want reports of sites visited, black/blocklists etc.
You don't need to register or do anything else other than enter the DNS server addresses into your devices, reboot them and you're done. To check you're now using OpenDNS servers, go back to their home page and in the middle of the page you'll see a message telling you you're using them. |

Re: open dns
No, it's a common misconception that "better" DNS servers will magically speed up a connection. DNS is a name translation that's all. All they can do is possibly speed up resolving the initial connection to the server (by quicker lookup) so can improve browsing of new sites - old sites are in your DNS cache so don't need to be looked up again (well not frequently). DNS servers can make no difference to lag in gaming.

Re: open dns
I've just seen a reference elsewhere and it would appear that you can set the DNS in the O2 Box router via the Superuser login (see tutorial section for details of that login).

Re: open dns
ive logged in superuser the other day and i cant find any facility to change it.it only has 1 dns set of numbers and if you erase them and write the new open ones it just goes back a page when you press enter.
i have read a post on another site where you do it through your pc....cmd..telnet...then login superuser....very complicated and im pretty basic and dont want to mess with what i dont know.... thanks for the heads up m8 Last edited by andy66; 03-07-09 at 04:23 PM.. |

Re: open dns
Go to the START menu and in the RUN box type CMD
At the command prompt type telnet Then type open 192.168.1.254 Enter your username and password O2 Users log in with SuperUser (the ID seems to be CASE SENSITIVE, ie with S and U in capitals) Password: O2Br0ad64nd ie with digits 2064, the first O & B being capital letters cut and paste the following dns server route flush dns server route add dns=208.67.222.222 metric=0 intf=O2_ADSL2plus dns server route add dns=208.67.220.220 metric=0 intf=O2_ADSL2plus dns server route list saveall |
