Re: finished testing

Both your upstream and downstream sync speeds are limited by line length and line quality.

Your line is pretty good but not perfect and more importantly, quite long. The upstream is what the router is happy with - O2 might be able to tweak it a little but probably at a small cost to your downstream. Your downstream (as I think I've already mentioned) is just a shade low for your attenuation, which means you have a bit of line noise. Fixing it might give you half a meg or so more i.e. 7meg.

If you can be bothered (is it worth it for such a small gain?), try connecting your router directly to the test socket (hidden inside your master socket if you have an NTE5), using just a filter and supplied router cable - nothing else. If your sync rises by a significant amount then that's what you could achieve by improving your wiring/filtering. If there's no significant rise then the line noise is probably in your BT line and that will be pretty much impossible to get fixed as it isn't degrading your service much at all.

All in all, looking good

PS I've looked into that DNS question you had and it would appear that you can set the DNS in the O2 Box router via the Superuser login (see tutorial)

Re: finished testing

Ah - should have said: to do a proper comparison you need to reboot the router then take the stats immediately, followed by the other socket and another reboot/stats. If there's more than a few minutes between each then the results will be skewed by changes in the background noise levels.

If you look at the two sets of stats you've posted, the second was at the default noise margin i.e. you'd recently resynced, whereas the previous set had a downstream noise margin which had, in the 7 hours since the last resync, dropped 1.5db.

However, there is something odd going on as that attenuation drop was because the second time the router resynced it did so on ADSL2 instead of ADSL2+

Re: finished testing

OK - both ADSL2+ now.

There's an insignificant difference between the normal and test socket so what little noise there is probably arises from your BT line.

6.4 meg is pretty good, relax and enjoy it
