DG834GT in 'Modem Only' Mode
Hi,
I'm trying to connect using Linksys WRT54GS (v4) running DD-WRT v24-SP1, through a Netgear DG834GT configured as 'Modem Only'. The modem is showing a sync, but I can't get a PPPoE connection to come up on the router. I'm wondering if it's because O2 doesn't require a username/password. I've left them blank on DD-WRT and although it seems to still save the settings, it keeps popping up saying a username is required. Anyone else got such a setup working? Is there a username/password which will work, even though O2 doesn't require one? Thanks, Ian |

Re: DG834GT in 'Modem Only' Mode
Hi,
Got it working ![]() DHCP was the correct selection - I just had to go away leave it for a while to get the IP. It seems when you try and use multiple routers with O2 you sometimes have to wait for their DHCP server to forget about the old ones before it will give an IP... Thanks, Ian |

Re: DG834GT in 'Modem Only' Mode
Yes, that's right. The O2 servers will "remember" two Mac addresses. If you use more than two routers (or spoof more than two addresses) it will take about half an hour for the new one to be accepted.

Hi,
Yeah I know that now! - I found one of your sticky posts saying that - that's how I got it working :-) Thanks, Ian |

Re: DG834GT in 'Modem Only' Mode
Actually, interesting question though - after the 1/2hr, will it only "remember" the new one, all 3, or 2 of them (the new one and which..?)
Thanks, Ian |

Re: DG834GT in 'Modem Only' Mode
To be honest, I'm not sure. I have a recollection that the authentication servers will remember all but could be wrong. An interesting artefact is that I think you'll find that a specific IP is reserved against each Mac address, as they don't seem to be particularly dynamic. This may well have changed though as the number of customers increase.

Re: DG834GT in 'Modem Only' Mode
Hi,
ok, thanks. Yeah - they should expire the lease after so many days... Thanks, Ian |
