Help customising O2 router
I have just joined O2 and speed is about half I got with Sky but the is not my problem.
Immediate problems: 1. SuperUser password - how do I change. Easy enough to change Administrator password but I can't see how I change SuperUser password. Pointless me changing Administrator password when an Internet Savvy child of today can go in as SuperUser and change everything. 2. LAN IP - How do I change this. default for O2 modem is 192.168.1.254. But, my how network is set to 192.168.16.xx and I really don't want to change this. How do I change this. PS: O2 pre-sales team said 'yes' to all this but now tech support seems to be green on this except to give me the stock answer 'I shall log call with Enhanced team but that is chargeable' ![]() |

Re: Help customising O2 router
Also, how do I change SSID.
I already miss Belkin and Sky in that order. ![]() |

Re: Help customising O2 router
As for the speed issues dont fret until you recieve your confirmation text to say testing is finished. feel free to post your router stats though
Router Stats (sync, noise, attenuation) explained its best to leave the 02 box connected for the first few days ( dont turn it on and off) but after that if your missing your old router then why not use it? take a look How to use your own router with O2 Broadband im sure another member will be along to help with your other questions EDIT I noticed in another thread you mentioned specific feautures the 02 box does not provide but you require. as i said just stick it out with the 02 box until the testing completes

Re: Help customising O2 router
Yup I ditched the O2 box after I got the line testing done (4 days for me) and I am happily using my Belkin router.

Re: Help customising O2 router
Thanks for all your help. All done apart from Lan IP.
Here are the Stats: Uptime: 0 days, 1:05:55 (About 25 hours - I had to reboot) DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 936 / 1,375 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 16.0 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 36.0 / 61.5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 7.5 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 71 / 11,067 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 71 / 18 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 1,273 / 2 Let's see if they deliver 4Mb as sold (3.5 will be fine). BTW, I get slightly higher (~7%) download speed with BT filters. |

Re: Help customising O2 router
You have very little slack in your noise margin so ~2meg is the maximum you could get with your current line condition.
Your attenuation is showing as 61.5db. The maximum sync speed that will support is a shade under 3meg. So, clean up your wiring (assuming it isn't the BT line at fault) and you may get 3meg. Can't see 4 as at all likely. |

Re: Help customising O2 router
Thanks, Saturday.
Removed wire 3 from phone socket, used BT microfilter and bingo!! Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 910 / 3,926 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 36.5 / 61.5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 5.5 / 6.5 Thanks once again |

Re: Help customising O2 router
Amazing result
![]() I don't know how O2 is doing it but they seem to be delivering extraordinary speeds with high attenuation lines. Just under 4meg at 61.5db is way off any charts I have for speed/attenuation. Brilliant. Last edited by Saturday; 19-07-09 at 09:05 AM.. |

Re: Help customising O2 router
Well, it was your suggestion for cleaning up the lines that did it. From my previous experience with Sky, I know that BT filters seem to perform better.
So, 2+2 and now keeping fingers crossed. Thanks once again. |
