Is O2 Access better than Sky Connect?
Hi.
I'm currently with sky bb on their connect package. They're awful ![]() Past 4-5pm every day I get serious slowdown. Recently it seems as if the weekends are limited too. Our speeds are usually 4-5MBps, but past 4-5pm we go all the way down to 0.3-0.5MBps. They've limited us for around 40-50gb monthly of downloads, and we've had it since october 08 (exactly when this policy was introduced). We had no notification of this new policy, and when we asked them why we were being slowed down they lied. Not only that, but yesterday when I asked for my MAC code, I was told I had to cancel sky first. I later found out that was against ofcom regulations... Unfortunately I live near an exchange that hasn't been upgraded for 3.5 years, so there are no LLU operators, thus no proper packages from the big ISPs. I have an 02 mobile contract so I can get it for £17 a month. SO, this a question mainly to those of you who were on Sky connect (specifically) who changed to 02 Access. Which is better? Will I notice a big improvement with 02 Access if I go ahead with them? Or, would I be better with the £20 per month Plusnet unlimited package? I heard that Sky have oversubscribed for their sky connect package so it's much worse than the other ISPs equivalent. Is this true? Last edited by h3dg3h0g; 05-08-09 at 02:25 PM.. |

Re: Is O2 Access better than Sky Connect?
Hi
I just had the exact same problem as yourself with connect, identical. I switched to o2 and got activated on Monday....so far so good. ![]() above is a speedtest I just ran at 6.30pm, not bad in comparison to Sky connect 300 kb/s!! Last night I was getting about 2 mbps or thereabouts during the main peak time. I'm only just activated however so only time will tell. |

Re: Is O2 Access better than Sky Connect?
You might get more consistency if you didn't use such a rubbish speedtester - like Connect it gets thrashed during peak times and so gives wildly inaccurate results.

I moved from Connect to Access and its night and day difference, for the better i may add.
I would recommend it. |

Re: Is O2 Access better than Sky Connect?
Thanks guys, looks like I'll be moving too
Being a gamer and having no LLU at all in our area, any thing which helps is a no brainer! |

Re: Is O2 Access better than Sky Connect?
for gaming no , it all down to how congested your exchange already is
O2 Forum :: View topic - o2 access package - any hope for better speed? right now access is very hit and miss for new customers. the offical o2 baord is flooded with more speed complaints then i have ever seen in the 7 months that i have been reading them
