Thinking of changing from sky to o2 please help
Hi
Well i am on skyuser at the min and found that site to be great and hopefully this one will be the same. My contract expires with sky in december and was thinking of coming over to o2 premium but would like a few questions answering first if you can help. 1. My router stats are below...what speeds can i expect from 02? Router StatisticsSystem Up Time: 4:16:18 Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time WAN PPPoA 132149 150741 0 0 0 4:15:14 LAN 163157 143323 0 0 0 4:16:18 WLAN 0 0 0 0 0 4:15:51 ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 5216 kbps 768 kbps Line Attenuation 47.0 db 29.0 db Noise Margin 7.1 db 15.0 db 2. If i join premium and can't get over 8 meg then what happens? 3. If your on standard or premium is there any difference in terms of speeds 02 offer you i.e. is one faster than the other in terms of speeds i know one is 8 and the other 20 but by my stats would i get over 8meg? 4. Are both truely unlimited download packages as i notice fair use policy does anyone know download amount per month if there is a limit in gigs? 5. Can anyone offer any plus points why it's better then sky broadmand max package? Thanks in advance |

Re: Thinking of changing from sky to o2 please help
1. 6-7mb if your line is noise free, do you often disconnect now or have a noisy landline?
2. I think they move you down to the next package. (need some clarification form other members or check when you order) 3. The up to 8mb package has some problems like sky. During peak times it will slow down, in the last few weeks 02 has been upgrading their equipment and some users now alot happier with the service. generally premium is preferred because its LLU and not a re badged BT product like sky mid or 02 standard. 4. l i know of someone that downloads well over 250gb a month quite often. i have never seen mention of 02 stepping in. 5. if you go with 02 acess and not premium its has similar issues as sky mid but things are improving for most. as for premium that would be much better for more stable consistent connection. either way though you'll get generally faster uploads. fast answering 24hr call centers all in the uk iand best of for me they seem to understand and not need to put you on hold to check everything with a supervisor!

Re: Thinking of changing from sky to o2 please help
O2 standard isnt a rebadged product, neither is sky mid.O2 access is the BT product o2 resell as is sky connect...
lynnwood, spoke to you over on skyuser.most people generally find they get better speeds here on O2,im not sure why as its all adsl2+.everything about o2 beats sky hands down.customer services are on the ball, its free to call and you get through in a couple of minutes. if you sign up for standard and after dlm your line can handle more,o2 will get in touch and give you the option of upgrading. thats probably the best way to go as your attenuation is about the same as mine so your line probably wont cope with the extra speed you get on premium. im getting double what i had with sky and my ping has halved. have a read through the forum and youll see how many have moved from sky and how happy they are ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Thinking of changing from sky to o2 please help
I recently went from Sky's Mid/Everyday package to O2 standard (both LLU not BT as a previous poster incorrectly suggested) and I'm getting an increase of 1.5Mbps on my connection speed. This is mainly due to O2 having a lower default SNR than Sky and Sky being very conservative with their line configurations.

Re: Thinking of changing from sky to o2 please help
I would stick with Standard for now, if you manage the full 8Mbps with SNR to spare then it may be worth changing up the package.

Re: Thinking of changing from sky to o2 please help
i agree, start on standard then if your line can handle more, upgrade.
if i remember rightly, your first payment is taken 14 days after activation and by that time your line should be all sorted. |

O2 are still offering the first 2 months free anyway so you've got nothing to lose.
