Hi all, moving from Sky to O2

I've decided to move from Sky to O2, because Sky are doing my head in.

I just have a few questions...

1) I have ordered my package today over the internet, everything went perfectly. When can i expect to be up and running?

2) Will i have to ring Sky and cancel my contract with them, or will this be sorted out on its own?

Thanks,
Jamie

Re: Hi all, moving from Sky to O2

The time will depend on BT engineer scheduling to go into the exchange and make the changes. In the past it has usually been about a week from order to activation - sometimes a little longer, sometimes a little shorter.

The MAC process should ensure that when your O2 connection is activated your Sky connection is ceased along with charges. Very occasionally this goes wrong. Just log into "My Sky" at the changeover and it should show the charging has stopped.

Re: Hi all, moving from Sky to O2

Hi buddy!
I to have left Sky this this week because of their lovely customer service!!

It took 4 days from the first phone call to O2, for my broadband to be changed over.
I had my router in the post the following day, and three days later (today) I had my text telling me I was activated.
I have had a couple of connection issues, but changing channel number has corrected that.
So far I am getting 7meg, not the 16meg I was getting from Sky, but O2 assure me that after the 10 day settling in period, my speed should increase to atleast 16meg.

Make sure you cancel your direct debit for Sky, they WILL try to take more money than you owe, now you have cancelled!

Hi bud, i never had a direct debit set up with Sky, i used to ring and pay with my card when the bill was due, i don't trust Direct Debt! lol

Sounds like you had a smooth switch over, i can only hope for the same.

Re: Hi all, moving from Sky to O2

Did you have any problems getting your MAC code?
Sky refused to issue it to me at first, but after a phone call from ofcom they changed their very tiny minds!

Re: Hi all, moving from Sky to O2

Well to be honest it was quite odd. We had our MAC code come through the post a few days ago, but no one had requested it. When it came through, i thought i might as well change to O2 now i have it.

I went onto the MAC checker, and it worked perfectly.

So in short, no, because we already had it xD

The only reason I've changed is because i was on Sky Connect, and the traffic shaping that was happening in the evenings was beyond a joke. Also their customer service is ridiculous.

Re: Hi all, moving from Sky to O2

I've just tracked my order online, and i noticed this next to "dispatching your welcome pack"...

"Your welcome pack, including your O2 Box wireless modem and quick start instructions will be sent to you days prior to activation given that your payment has been made. Only plug in your O2 Box on your activation date."

Now, I'm sure i read that my first payment will be made when i have been activated, but according to this, i will only be sent my modem etc after my payment.

When will my first payment actually take place?
