o2 Wireless box.. Dead..
Hey there,
Stumbled upon this site today after our o2 wirless box died. A few days back, the router stopped assigning local IP addresses, and no access could be made to the router at all. Called o2 and told them the router was dead, they then insisted plugging the router into the master socket, and test socket yada yada. I knew this would make no difference, however, they seemed adamant that they wanted me to complete this. It's taken about 3 days to actually get them to send a new router out. In the past when we've had line errors, they've sent routers out straight away, even though these were line failures. So, waiting for this router now.. However, I have asked o2 to put us onto the standard ADSL profile (not adsl2), so that I can use my old Origo ASR-8400 router. I've asked them for the settings, and they gave me the regular VCI: 101, LLC-based etc etc, and stated no username or password. Tried this, however got nothing but CRC errors on the upstream and downstream with no access.. Called them back, the person I got through to this time said we needed a radius username and password.. Tried this.. Again.. Nothing. o2 seem unclear about the router settings. I've spoken to them and asked things like "Is it PPPoA LLC? or PPPoE LLC? or infact 1483 Bridged LLC?" to which the tech support guy said "Try all of them" My router seems to be asking me for settings that even o2 are unaware of. I was wondering if anyone here could provide any insight into this. We are usually on the standard o2 package (ADSL2+ upto 8mb). Please note, the settings in the following screenshot are from various websites that I have pieced together. Screenshot: http://i47.tinypic.com/2n8wnkx.jpg Thanks in advance ![]() Dave |

Re: o2 Wireless box.. Dead..
Sounds like my router which needed a bit of working out what needed to go in.
On my router due to O2 not having any username or passwords to log onto their system I use a 1483 Bridge with the following settings VPI 0 VCI 101 Address automatically assigned by ISP Encapsulation LLC That should be enough to get you going. |

Re: o2 Wireless box.. Dead..
If I've understood your post correctly, you have signed up to an O2 LLU product (O2 standard) but want/need to use a modem which doesn't support ADSL2+? You've then asked O2 to set your connection to ADSL (G.DMT)?
Whatever O2 have or haven't done following your request, I'm struggling to believe that they will have moved you to a non LLU connection i.e. O2 Access, therefore the normal O2 LLU instructions apply as per the guide on this site. So, ETHoA and not PPPoA with no username and password entered. You'll find more detailed discussion in this thread. O2 also shouldn't need to manually set your connection to G.DMT as the router/exchange equipment should negotiate the correct encapsulation for the connected equipment, though yours is a very old outdated router so who knows. BTW unlike many ISPs O2 is happy for customers to use their own routers but won't support them. That seems very fair to me as the cost and complexity of training staff to support hundreds of router types would be impossible. |

![]() o2 did offer to get our router connected for us for a charge. Which at first I was a little bit unhappy to pay, due to it being their equipment failure which led to this problem in the first place. However, I decided that it was necessary for work. (I work from home as a web designer). After calling them back and asking for this service, they stated that there was no-one available to do that right now, and they'd call us back.. 2 days later, still waiting ![]() Will just have to wait I reckon. Hopefully the new router will be with us within the next 5 days, taking the time without internet to 10 days ![]() Thanks for all your help anyway guys, really appreciated ![]() Dave |

Re: o2 Wireless box.. Dead..
if you really need to get on the internet a quick trip to PC world or Maplin would get you an ADSL2+ router for £50 and then when the new O2 box turns up you can keep it as a spare.
