Change WEP to WPA-number of characters?

As the heading says, I've changed from WEP to WPA and fully expected more than 10 characters in the key? they're auto generated, but understood WPA to have more than 10?

According to the techy both O2 and Sky use 10 characters. Can I change this by inserting my own and more or is it advisable to leave well alone? I only have my tower system and wireless printer networked, nothing else.

Plus it allows use of WPA 2 but characters stayed the same when I clicked apply?

thanks

Re: Change WEP to WPA-number of characters?

Hi,

Your WPA key can be changed by accsessing your router's visual interface (GUI). You can change it to any combination you like, as long as it is between 8 and 62 characters long. The GUI for the O2 wireless box is located at http://o2wirelessbox.lan . If it asks for a username and password, the username is 'admin' and the password is your router's serial number (located on the sticker on the bottom of your router.

Hope this helps,
Sam

Re: Change WEP to WPA-number of characters?

WPA2 has replaced WPA and uses a much "stronger" algorithm.

As Sam says, you can enter any valid characters. If you want to be as secure as possible then use WPA2 and a randomly generated passphrase using upper and lower case, numbers and non alpha-numeric characters (i.e. any of the 95 ASCII characters) as long as you can up to the limit which I believe is 63, though frankly, 15 would be more than sufficient.
