Re: Router Stats?

As opposed to starting another new thread asking about stats, I was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback on what I'm getting at the moment. I've only been with o2 a couple of weeks, and I'm getting massively fluctuating down speeds 3800 - 5400... though for the past few days I've not got about 5000.

I've spoke to O2 and they've apparently played with the line and I've not had sub 4000 for a week now, but they think I should be getting a better speed. I've tried connecting directly to the test line thingie after taking the plate off the wall and it didn't really affect the speed.

Stats are: Uptime: 0 days, 0:48:59
DSL Type: G.992.5 Annex M US 56
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,278 / 4,802
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 1.05 / 3.98
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 26.5 / 46.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 3.5 / 4.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 3 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 12 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 686 / 528,745
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 686 / 912
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 10,370 / 590

Cheers,

WellsWells

Re: Router Stats?

Every time the router is rebooted or disconnected and reconnected it will sync at the highest speed it can at the default noise margin. Line noise varies through the day, typically rising in the evening and then dropping back in the early hours of the morning. So. reboot in the evening and more line noise means the router has to sync a little lower to achieve the default. Reboot in the morning and it will sync a little higher. Keep your router connected through the day and you'll see the noise margin move rather than the sync.

A swing of 2 maybe 3 db through the day (equiv to a meg or so in sync) is completely normal. More than that usually indicates a noisy line.

ADSL sync speed is limited by line noise and line length (effectively attenuation). Your attenuation at 46.5 db would normally support ~7.5meg. You're getting between 3800kbps and 5400kbps, The shortfall is down to line noise I'm afraid. Your CRC errors suggest the same.

Have a look at the tutorial section. You'll find the above better and more fully explained there. You'll also find tips on the forum for improving line noise - though if you are getting similar with your test socket your opportunities for improvement may be slim.
