IP Address Help
Hi all
I've been trying to find a solution to my problem for ages, but to no avail and hope someone can offer some advise. My Exchange is an old exchange and not sure when its due to be upgraded. Due to the age of the Exchange we are only able to get the lower end packages for broadband. These packages do not allow fixed IP addresses which is causing the problem. I need to add an IP address to a firewall at our server host in order to gain access to my SQL databases etc, and you cannot enter dynamic names which I tried. When the router gets bounced and the lease runs out, I have to keep emailing them my new IP address in order to gain access again. Some guys have told me I might be able to enter an IP range which my ISP uses, does anyone know the IP address range(s) O2 use and is it feasible. Seems a bit mad to me, but there you go. All the best and thank you in advance for looking. Chris. |

Re: IP Address Help
Maybe you should consider one of the DynamicDNS services. They associate a name with your machine-regardless of the ip, that wat you can always connect....or so they claim!

Re: IP Address Help
DNS Exit (Free Dynamic DNS, Static DNS for Dynamic IP) offer a free dynamic DNS solution.
I've used them on and off over the years for either dynamic DNS* or MX record backup** and they've always been very good. However, in your case I not sure it's helpful - if your firewall allows the use of fully qualified names, rather than IP addresses to be added then you'd be ok. I'm surprised that O2 cannot/will not offer a static IP! Perhaps it's time to look at another ISP? I'm not sure if it'd work, but maybe a call to cancellations explaining if you cannot get one, then you're off to another one might be able to do something?

Re: IP Address Help
Hi ccn1,
I’ll not be able to provide much support with the nature of your query however can tell you that the O2 IP ranges are 192.168.1.xx (from 64 – 254). If you’re on Access package then unfortunately we’ll not be able to offer static IP address. However we do offer static IP address with a standard charge of £5.00 p.m. on our LLU packages (O2 Standard and Premium packages). If you’re on Pro package, you can have Static IP address for free of charge. Abhishek Last edited by Abhishek@o2; 02-08-10 at 06:01 PM.. |

Re: IP Address Help
Hi Abhishek,
Wouldn't that be the internal address range? I think he's referring to the external address block that O2 use.
