Ok yesterday at around 9.30PM GMT, my o2wirelessbox/internet was being an absolute pain.
Basically the internet light on the router turned off whilst the broadband light kept flashing green, it would do this for around 30 secs-60secs then internet light goes red and green straight after. It kept doing this every 30-60secs making it near impossible to connect to the internet, however it has been up for 14 hours now without a disconnection. I was just wondering what this could of been? It does tend to reboot itself on somedays but never like that. Its fine at the moment though. Any ideas what could of been the cause? |

Quote:
It could have been one of a few things; -A modem software upgrade (unlikely, as O2 usually announce these in advance and give dates and timescales, and I havent heard anything about it). -A temporary modem glitch. (Sometimes the software in the modem has a hissy fit, think of it like a BSOD on your modem , and this causes up to 5 minutes of disconnectivity. After that, all is normal.)-An upgrade in the exchange - Or, the most likely, a (very) temporary line fault, which usually clears after 5 minutes. None of these are anything to worry about, provided it doesnt happen again. If there are recurrences, then you will need to contact O2 Tech support and report the problem to them. Hope this helps! Re: Weird problem yesterday
It was an update, as my wife had an email saying:
To ensure that your O2 Broadband always performs at the highest level, we occasionally carry out updates on our O2 Wireless boxes. That’s why we’re writing to you to let you know that over the next few days, we're going to update yours. You’ll see your O2 Wireless box turn itself off and back on again, it’ll take around 30 seconds. These updates will increase the security of your O2 Wireless box. There are two changes we need to make you aware of: Password to access the Router We’re going to set up a password to protect the settings on your O2 Wireless Box. You don’t need to do anything. You’ll only need it if you want to change the settings. (In most cases, you’ll probably never need it.) The password is the serial number of your O2 Wireless Box. You might find that it takes longer to access the settings pages on your router at http://o2wirelessbox.lan, this is because of the new security features we’ve put in place to protect you online. Wireless Network Name If you ever have to reset your wireless box, it will set up a new wireless network name to increase the security of your O2 Wireless Box. You don’t need to do anything to make this happen either. If you would like to see more information around this, here's where you can find it here Felix Geyr Head of O2 Home and Broadband Very unusual you didn't have this message. |

I remember that email now, must have been over 2 months ago (forgotten it). That's why I reconnected the O2 box for the update. I never had a problem logging on to it though, I use the superuser setting and had changed all the passwords when I first went on O2.

Re: Weird problem yesterday
They'd better NOT change my box's settings again after I went to the trouble of setting passwords and securing the wifi network ages ago.
