Potential new user

Currently with sky, on the connect service although the exchange says SamKnows Broadband - Availability - St Marychurch (WWSMAR) Exchange

makes far more sense to switch to o2 as i have a mobile phone contract with them.
I have my phone line rental through sky, is that a problem if i want to change to o2 (BT line to the house)

What is the downtime of swapping providers too?

Thanks

Re: Potential new user

If you're able to move to an O2 LLU product then you'll find the difference amazing.

If it's just line rental then there shouldn't be a problem. However, if Sky had moved you onto their telephony network then that would be a big problem. As you're on Connect, they won't/can't have moved you so no worries there.

Downtime is normally just a few minutes but can occasionally run to a few hours depending on what else the engineer has to do at the exchange.

Re: Potential new user

No, not in my opinion.
  1. I doubt the date is correct or that BT will be offering their new service to you for a while yet
  2. BT are just catching up with the sort of products and services that other ISPs offer (e.g. ADSL2+) - it's no big deal

We can only provide our broadband services through an active BT line.
Which means that the landline and the line rental should be of BT.

Re: Potential new user

8meg will be fine xbox runs off upstream. with O2 you will get better downstream & upstream & ping times then sky. use your netgear that you got with sky its better for gaming. how to flash your sky router is on here some where. Saturday is the best person to ask about finding it

Yes, you'll have to move to BT for line rental but I thought this is usually done at the same time as the change of ISP.

Best thing would be to call O2 rather than email and see what they say. Could be they think you're on Sky's network (SVBN) which you're not as noted earlier.

If O2 say they can't do a straight migration then cancel your line rental first with Sky and then get your MAC code.
