My Wireless Box III stopped working last night.
Now the Power light blinks amber and the ethernet light blinks green. while all the others are dark. very strange. I tried the hard reset button next to the power button and that doesn't work either. It seems like the modem is stuck somehow. ps. this has been going on for over 12 hours now. thanks for any advice all. |

Re: Router stopped working last night ...
You're not in the area of Kent (I think?) where the cable was nicked, are you?

Re: Router stopped working last night ...
I can help you. The exact same thing happened to me at the same time that it happened to you (Saturday night, am I correct?)
I spent almost an hour on the phone with tech support, and after exhausting the poor clueless man's sheet of possible problems, I was moved to the REAL technicians who instantly said they'd send me a new router. I received it today, set it up, and was online for a good 10 minutes... and then it happened AGAIN. You can imagine this being very frustrating yes? So, I refused to go back to tech support because I don't want to wait for them to send me ANOTHER router (which will probably end up having the same problem) so I looked around and tried to solve the problem myself. First you will notice I am here writing this to you. I am indeed on the internet, because I did indeed fix the problem. I believe the problem occurs when the router tries to apply a firmware update but something goes wrong in the process. Thus the router ends up with bad/corrupt firmware and cannot operate. What I did, and what you should do, is this: 1) Have a WINDOWS XP (Windows 7 WILL NOT WORK with this, and I don't know about Vista) computer connected to the router by Ethernet cable and insert the O2 Broadband set-up CD into your computer. 2) Open the CD to browse the contents and navigate to the following folder: software>o2>utilities 3) Depending on your Wireless box... -If you own Wireless Box II, open the program/file called RT-585v7_74k4EJ.exe -If you own Wireless Box III (which in your case you do), open the file called RT-585n_82L0AH.exe These files will restore your wireless box to factory settings etc etc by flashing the original firmware. 4) Let the program run to completion. Note: You should wait until your computer has finished attempting to connect with the wireless box (i.e.. when it says "connected with limited or no connectivity") before running the program. When completed, the program will notify you with a success message. 5) Once this is complete, you should notice a couple of things. First of all, your computer is now able to connect to the wireless box normally without any "limited or no connectivity" errors. Secondly, if you look at the box, you should notice that the lights have returned to *almost* normal. I say *almost* because you now need to set up your internet connection again. 6) To be on the safe side, reboot both your computer and wireless box and when both are ready, run the set-up CD and set-up your broadband connection as you did when you first got your broadband connected. 7) You should now be back online. |

Re: Router stopped working last night ...
I believe it works if you right-click on the executable and choose to run it in XP SP3 (or SP2) mode?

Re: Router stopped working last night ...
On a related note...that's very interesting because even though my DSL is now connected through a Netgear, at some point on Saturday night it all stopped working...
A quick run around turning everything off and back on on Sunday morning resolved it, but I wonder wth O2 did??? lol I'd forgotten about my little outage.

Re: Router stopped working last night ...
Actually no, this was the first thing I tried and it still didn't work. I've never had much faith in the Windows Compatibility modes, because it barely ever works.
