I've just about given up on going wireless so this forum is my last resort! Heres the deal:
Im on O2 standard broadband, and have been since September Never had any problems with it until randomly now My connection is fine when plugged into router (a wireless box II) via ethernet Suddenly my wireless connection started going haywire - its going fine, then suddenly going reeeeally slow, then losing connection altogether (will lose connection temporarily about every 2 mins) This has been going on for 5 days now. Heres what Ive tried: Resetting the router (both from reset button and accessing the router settings on my laptop) Changing the channel to something different Running the O2 set-up disc as if for the first time Using my own router - I have a netgear one but I can't seem to get it access to O2 broadband even when using the settings that O2 advise. So if anyone has any ideas to why my wireless won't work, or help on how I could use my netgear router instead, it would be much appreciated. Last edited by Beanie; 01-05-10 at 12:44 PM.. Re: Wireless Issues, Please help!
I'm not on Home Access anyway... Just says my package is O2 Home Broadband Standard. I've already tried using that guide to no avail... Its a netgear DG834GT if thats any help. Only thing I wasn't sure of in its settings was Account Name. Ive tried leaving it blank, tried my O2 username, and tried entering O2 Home Broadband with nothing happening.

Re: Wireless Issues, Please help!
It's very straightforward on a DG834GT:
In Basic settings choose no to the question "Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login". Domain name leave blank. For "Internet IP" and "Domain name server" choose Get Dynamically From ISP. Enable NAT and use default router MAC. Click "apply". In ADSL settings "Multiplexing" is LLC based, VPI is 0 and VCI is 101. Click "apply". That's it. |

Re: Wireless Issues, Please help!
AARRGGHH lol! By the way I did try leaving the account name blank and it still didn't work. Aaaanyway, the router isnt the problem.
O2 sent me a new one and I'm having the same problems. It worked ok for 8 months so I really don't see how I can't make it work again. Its not my laptop (as my fiance is having same problems when wireless) Its not the router (as new one hasnt helped) Its not the internet connection (as its fine when I plug into router via ethernet) Its not the channel (as this has been changed to all of them for trial) I cant see what it could be at all?! It just suddenly started one day. If anyone could help I'd be eternally grateful!! |

Re: Wireless Issues, Please help!
You've tried another router so if it's fine when connected by cable and not when wireless then it can only be rf interference or incompatibility between the router and connected devices which is affecting only the wireless functionality e.g. drivers on either device or software on the laptops (firewalls etc).
My guess would be the former though O2 have changed the router firmware recently so there is a (small) chance it has introduced problems - trying a non O2 router would help determine if this is an issue. Last edited by Saturday; 05-05-10 at 08:07 PM.. |

Re: Wireless Issues, Please help!
You could try moving the router - granted it wouldn't connect to the internet but you could ping it (192.168.1.254 is the default I believe) and see if there are problems where it is compared to other locations.

Re: Wireless Issues, Please help!
I'd tried moving the router to different places with no difference. I've tried the netgear router again which might have helped me establish what the problem was and I definetely have the settings right but it cant seem to get connection to O2 internet granted.
I did install a new firewall around the time my problems started (changed from PC Tools Firewall to Online Armour) but I doubt that couold be affecting it as the network is under the trust list, and I disabled the firewall just incase. Oh and my partner is having problems too so it can't really be anything on my laptop anyway. I'm really out of ideas now! Is there anything anyone can think of that I could try? |
