sudden drop in download speed
Hi guys newbie here.
hopefully one of the o2 guys here can help me, got connected with o2 on 23rd April this year, and my connection has been really stable, however today my router has been dropping out regularly, and my speed has dropped to 8mb from 11.5. My stats are posted below one thing I have noticed is it is now set to annexe m not A and my noise margin is 9 or 10 where it used to be 6 or 6.5. Anything you guys can do from your end to improve my connection again. Uptime: 0 days, 0:34:24 DSL Type: G.992.5 Annex M US 56 Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,079 / 8,084 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 62.14 / 1.64 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.5 / 37.5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 10.5 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 546 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,404,398 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,508 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 919 / 801 |

Re: sudden drop in download speed
That's very odd. Can't explain the ADSL mode change but you've a problem with line noise which is giving a very high downstream CRC figure and error seconds for a short time connection and a high noise margin - the latter presumably because the router is struggling with the connection.
If you hard reboot the router (power off then power up) does the ADSL mode and noise margin stay the same? Last edited by Saturday; 21-05-10 at 07:22 PM.. |

Re: sudden drop in download speed
OK, that got the noise margin back as you'd expect - still on annex M though
![]() Chances are there's a line issue involved and you'll get more drop outs and big shifts in noise margin if that's the case. Have you made any changes to your home telephone wiring recently? How are you connected? Does a connection to your master socket give a better sync/more stable connection? |

Re: sudden drop in download speed
Hi flicksy
Thanks for your post. Sorry to hear that you're having problems with your connection. I want you to make sure that you've eliminated all the internal wiring faults (changing filter, removing any extensions, trying test socket etc). Do you hear any crackling on your phone line? If yes then try checking quite line noise by dialling 17070 from your BT phone and press option 2, this will eliminate any interference on BT line. If the noise still exists, I would report it to BT as a Phone line fault. I'm not sure if you're on pro package as your modulation shows Annex M , if you're not using too much upload then I would suggest you to get the DSL type changed to Annex A . If you've tried everything above and still have problems, do not hesitate to give me a shout or call our customer support @ 0800 230 0202 (24/7). Re: sudden drop in download speed
Hi
I've changed modulation to Annex A (PM request) and you're now getting 10.7 down and 1.2 mb upload. There were some errors on the line as well so make sure you eliminate interference internally and externally. Please check the connection when you come back home and let me know how it goes. ![]() Iqbal Last edited by Iqbal@O2; 21-05-10 at 09:02 PM.. |

Re: sudden drop in download speed
Thanks to Iqbal for all his efforts in this, but it now looks like it is a fault at BT end, phoned faults earlier and the guy had to ring me back on my mobile the line was that bad.
Fault has been lgged and should be sorted by Tuesday, so I will report back and let you know then. At the moment I a syncing at 350. |
