Speed issues.

Hi,
Can anybody explain to me why my line profile is at 16.843meg, apparantly the highest my line can handle, yet when I was an O2 customer a year ago, before making the unfortunate mistake of migrating away, my line profile was 21meg?

I have an old speed test result I will post below, followed by a current speed test.

That was taken last year.

You will notice with tonights test, it is fairly slow, I always get a slower speed between 6pm and midnight.... I didnt think I was ment to be traffic shapped on LLU?

Re: Speed issues.

Heres a speed test taken just after midnight, with a dramatic increase.

Your router will negotiate with the exchange equipment the highest speed possible for the prevailing line conditions. If your sync speed has dropped then that can only mean that the noise levels on your line have increased OR O2 have capped you which is unheard of. If you post your router stats then it will be easy to see if this is the case.

As part of network management, all ISPs will traffic shape - it's just not noticeable if done well which is always the case with O2 LLU. You've not given your router stats or said whether you are wireless or not. The speed drops you report are unlikely to be down to O2.

Re: Speed issues.

Also speedtest.net is a terrible speed testing site with some very inaccurate readings.

Your better off downloading a test file from somewhere like Nvidea to see how your connection is.

Re: Speed issues.

Hi torbayguy,

Have you tried downloading test files from Think Broadband?

Try downloading some of these and monitor your transfer rates

thinkbroadband :: Download Test Files

Let us know how you get on.
