Broadband Speed
Hello O2
I am a new broadband customer and have moved to O2 from BT. I signed up for your Pro package as it was estimated that I would get 10Mbp/s download speed, compared with the 8Mbp/s I was getting from BT. In reality, I seem to be getting less than I was with BT! Her are the stats from my O2 Wireless Box III: - Uptime: 1 day, 13:43:00 DSL Type: G.992.5 Annex M US 56 Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,152 / 6,878 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 219.30 / 3.36 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.5 / 39.5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 7.0 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 17 / 128,337,097 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 17 / 600 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 404 / 469 Are there any checks that you can perform to see why I am getting these speeds? Here is an example of the results from speedtest: - Download - 5.63Mb/s Upload - 0.95Mb/s Any help you can give me would be appreciated Regards Justin |

Re: Broadband Speed
Hi Justin
Thanks for your post and welcome to O2. I just want to make sure that you've carried out the following steps for the basic diagnosis : • Checked the speeds with router connected to the test socket ( socket behind the master face plate). • All the extensions removed. • Checked the speeds with an Ethernet connection. • Hard reset done on the router.(press pin on the back of the router in reset hole and hold it for 10 sec till power light turns red and let it go) As you’ve recently joined us, your line will go through a 10 day testing period for stabilisation during which you’ll notice a fine variation in speeds. Also you’re on a Annex M profile which helps when using higher uploads than downloads. I’d suggest you to get this changed to Annex A if you don’t use too much upload. I’d advise you to wait till the testing period finishes and if there’s no improvement in speeds then please call our customer support @ 0800 230 0202 (24/7) or give us a shout. If you want to get the modulation changed then PM me your BT landline number and I’ll get that changed to Annex A. Iqbal Last edited by Iqbal@O2; 07-06-10 at 10:45 AM.. |

Re: Broadband Speed
Hello Iqbal
Thanks for the reply. I havent put the router in the test socket etc. I will do this sometime this week and let you know the result. I do upload a fair bit so would like to retain the higher upload speed. Thanks again. |
