Very Bad Downstream speed?
Since we Sky plugged the SKY HD+ Box into the phone line, I have noticed that my downstream speed was VERY low than usual...
Idk how long it has been this low, since I only checked today, but a game I am playing is going really laggy due to this(i think) and idk whats up with my internet. Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,178 / 1,454 This is what it says my Bandwidth is when I look into my O2wirelessbox. I also went to check what Speedtest.net showed and it wasn't very good either.. Download: 1.02m/s Upload: 0.56m/s Ping: 39m/s Idk if Speedtest is accurate but the router is accurate and I have no idea why it's this low O.o Does anyone know what might have caused this sudden drop in downstream? It used to be over 5000 or so, don't know why its now 1.4 Thanks. |

Re: Very Bad Downstream speed?
Yeah I agree with Stu - check that the box has a microfilter. If it has got one, it might be worthwhile replacing it - they can fail over time, especially the older, cheaper ones.
Is it a new extension for the Sky HD box or an existing one? Try unplugging it and rebooting your router to see if the speed improves - if not, it could be a dodgy bit of extension wiring which may need to be looked at. If you unplug the HD box and it makes no difference, try plugging your router into the test socket (there are instructions on this site how to do that). Let us know how you get on.

Re: Very Bad Downstream speed?
Thanks guys for the help, It just solved it.
It's now back at 5MB according to speedtest.net which is what I usually get ![]() Apparently Sky took out the filter and replaced it with a telephone adapter, no wonder why it was slow as hell. I took the adapter out and put a filter in with the adapter plugged in the filter and now the speed shot up back to normal ![]() Basically the Sky+ HD box was interfering with my broadband ^ Thanks again. |
