Third Party Routers

Can i use a third party wireless router on 02?

I currently have the wirless II box and have spotted a Wireless N router on a very good offer in town.

Would this work or would i have problems?

Re: Third Party Routers

You can use your own router with no problems on O2.

Re: Third Party Routers

I had a Netgear DGN1000 and while it had a stable internet connection, the wirless connection was terrible even with an N card. The signal was fine but the router needed resetting daily for wireless devices to gain an internet connection.

Re: Third Party Routers

Do you really need a draft n router?

The vast majority of peeps only use their wifi for browsing the web/email etc, so it always slightly baffles me when they want to pay for an upgrade that won't really be of any benefit.

Don't get me wrong - if you're wanting to stream HD media and the like and/or copy large files, I get it, but otherwise...

Also our networking guys are saying that they see a lot of issues with them because they gobble up mutiple channels and perversely can be more effected than slower/older a/b/g wifi in congested areas (something that draft-N was supposed to stop with its MIMO technology).

Vaguely humerous anecdote: A friend of mine owns his own company and is not really particularly technical (though he likes to believe otherwise) and saw a wifi router on the gadget show.

He bought one and got his brother in law to set it up then ranted at him that he'd done it wrong because his world of warcraft experience wasn't any quicker...I kid you not.
