Re: Router passwords don't work
Have you changed the router username/password some time in the past? If so and you've forgotten what they are then a hard reset should put it back to default. Then use ‘Administrator’ as the username and the serial number on the bottom of your wireless box as the password.
If it is already set to default then no need for a reset, just use the above log in details. Last edited by Saturday; 05-08-10 at 05:58 PM.. |

Re: Router passwords don't work
Thank you
I tried a million different combinations with no luck. I got into the router imediatly after using your advice. I think I was entering the serial number followed by the 2 charactures in brackets before. I am still stumped though. I cannot connect to the internet. It has been fine for several years until 10-10.30 this morning. The Internet and Broadband lights went out. I contacted o2 and tried several tests, the last one was to replace the ADSL filter with a spare. Of course, this dropped my phone connection. I phoned back, waited another 20 mins and went through all the tests again. Still cannot conect to the internet. I a waiting for their 2nd line to phone back (whatever that is). I just wondered if I could fix it in the meantime. I am connecting via three internet at the moment. It is painfully slow and I can't get it to send emails. Can anyone suggest any other things I can try? I have tried 2 different ADSL filters and 2 different RJ11 cables. have hard reset the modem loads of times. I have a Netgear DG834v2 router. I read that these are not good for o2 LLU conections. Can it be configured in the meantime? Last edited by justmegt; 05-08-10 at 07:47 PM.. |

Re: Router passwords don't work
Now that you can log into the O2 box, what is it telling you about the connection e.g. is it showing a sync with the exchange?
Yes you should be able to use your Netgear. You'll find a guide to setting it up here. |

Re: Router passwords don't work
Not syncing.
Cannot get Netgear to connect to internet. I have tried 4 different ADSL filters and 2 RJ11 cables 2 different modems. I think it's a line fault. o2 don't seeme to know about it. I wish I could speak directly to someone from the exchange. |

Re: Router passwords don't work
Just plugged the original o2 router in with the original cable and ADSL filter and all is back to normal. I hope it was a line fault. Pity someone couldn't tell me. I have wasted most of the day trying to cure the problem.
Thank you for your help Saturday. I am glad I found this site. Tomorrow I will try to get the Netgear working, now I know I have a connection. At least I'll have a spare router all configured ready to plug in. |

Re: Router passwords don't work
Yes, looks like it was an exchange fault to me.
Unfortunately O2 have to depend on BT to inform them if there's an exchange problem - same for every ISP. That said I've found O2 to be on the ball. Just a few days ago the sent me a text saying they believed there might be a problem affecting my connection. It arrived within an hour of me noticing there was a problem so I feel pretty timely considering. However, from your description of how O2 handled your problem they certainly weren't up to their usual standard. Getting you to change the filter when you were on a call to them was just plain dumb. They should also have been able to see you had no sync ![]() |

Re: Router passwords don't work
I'm connected via an LLU in the exchange. So I don't know if that's BT's fault. I had a text form o2 on the 17 July but not this time. It's a pity they can't inform customers of a problem. As I said earlier, I spent about 12 hours yesterday trying to get back online.
![]() I've been on the net for over 15 years and had lots of different isps. O2 are definitely the best. I regularly get 4Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload, 3 miles from the exchange. That's twice the speed with BT wholesale and the best speed I've ever had. I will be sticking with them and I always recommend o2, providing there is an LLU in the exchange. ![]() |

Re: Router passwords don't work
Still a BT exchange - LLU operators just rent space in the exchange and the equipment is looked after by BT.
I doubt O2 are able top monitor every connection continuously at an exchange level. If there's nothing showing on O2's (remote) network management systems, which I suspect mainly focuses on the network outside of the exchange, then they have to rely on BT or the customer to let them know if there's a problem and BT has to fix it for them. What can also happen is that a BT engineer working on the LLU equipment (setting up new customers or fixing problems) inadvertently disconnects other customers while he/she is working. Shouldn't happen but it does. |
