Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

I thought I would update. Desktop seems to have stabled out, fingers crossed! No disconnections in a couple of days! However I woke up this morning after leaving the laptop on all night next to me without a problem. Within a hour of waking the wireless dropped out and was failing to reconnect at all. Not detecting the wireless but for a few occasions but just dropping out pretty much instantly.

Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

the wireless dropping out could be a few things....

there is a prog to check which channels are used locally located somewhere on here. That should help you decide if a neighbour has either changed channel or using a router thats interfering with yours.

It could also be the lappie had a hangover

Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

There are now numerous devices that use the 2.4 Ghz wavelength, I have 20 devices in my house that use it, including my 7 year old central heating system which takes up 2 channels.

It might be worth changing channels and seeing if you get a better connection.

The laptop seems to have stabled out, was just annoying at the time is all. I did notice my mobile lost its wireless signal too so :-??

Any chance you know the name of that software Stu? I'll download it and run it either way to see if it comes back with anything.

Thanks again, all.

Luke

Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

Ok another update!

My desktop connection sadly went down again tonight while the laptop one stayed on as usual. I phoned up broadband technical support and after 25 minutes of waiting for someone to answer I finally got through.

The person I got through to was adamant that it was a computer fault and not a router, he based that on asking me to ping google. He then asked me to do a couple of other command prompts. Nothing to do with ipconfig in case you are wondering, it was more something like this..

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

and I think it was this one, not 100% sure, but v similar..

netsh winsock reset catalog

Anyway I rebooted my comp and still the same problem. He then asked me to take the ethernet cable from my desktop and plug it into my laptop (which was running from the wireless) and that also did not work while using that ethernet cable. He then asked me to try the other O2 router (I had told him I had another router as the older router broke, someone knocked over a glass of orange on it and the plug sparked and broke lol. Anyway the new router they had sent out was the one I have been using so found it odd that I was having problems with the new one. We went ahead and plugged the old one in and the net has come back on, both wireless and wired. Even checked to see if the ethernet cable worked on the laptop and it did.

So he says the router must of had a bad ethernet port or something, weird though how it can work for hours/days, both on desktop and xbox and then just go out? Either way will see how this old one works out and I expect I will be getting back to them as I am not convinced lol.

Luke

Is it the Thomson V2 router?

The reason I ask is I had the same, wireless is fine, just wired drops out as in you cannot connect on the 192.168.1.254 or browse the net.

Stu - It would appear that the OP is suffering from the same as I am. The wired PC stops working, due to 'kernel warm restarts' etc if I have read this thread properly, although I have had a few wines this evening.

I just copied and pasted this info from the router.

Information

Product Name: TG585 v7

Serial Number: CP0945SFD2U

Software Release: 7.4.20.5

Is that what you're looking for?

Cheers
