Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

Had a read over that mate and seems some joy gets done with updated firmware?

I was going to sign up at O2 forums and request one of the O2 admins there to upgrade my router. Is it worth that or getting on the phone and asking for it to be done? Do I also need to turn off UPnP?

Cheers

I asked for it over the phone, and yes re the UPnP from what I have read.

Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

Ok, I contacted O2 via the phone and got through to a helpful guy who advised me the software on my router was currently not the lasted. He went away for a few minuted to speak with a colleague and came back to inform me that within the next 24-48 hours they will push the updated firmware down the line. He just said in 48 hours reboot the router and it should be in place.

Sounds good?

I expect it would be worthwhile waiting for that new firmware before disabling UPnP and then having to do it again when I reset, right?

Thanks again BTW, everyone who has in putted something thus far

Luke

Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

Ok I woke up this morning, reset my router to check to see if it had been updated and it looks like it has. However it also looks like they have dropped my connection speed down to a crummy 3 meg, even though yesterday I asked the guy on the phone what I was connecting at and he said 12 meg, quite a dramatic drop...

Above is screenshot from my laptop this morning.

Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

UPDATE! Lol - I imagine I am annoying some people now but it is better to let the people who have helped me so far

I phoned O2 up to query this speed and the person I spoke to today reset my noise margin back down to the default of 6, instead of 12 which is what it was on. He then said reset my router again so we can look at what you can connect at. To my surprise I am now connected at 16.9 meg, a HUGE difference to my usual 12 meg, or the lowly 3 meg I was getting this morning!

Fingers crossed my issues have been resolved, I will update in a few days if my connection stays live!

Thanks again,

Luke

Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

Everything was fine with it until I noticed my bloody Xbox started playing up with the stupid "strict NAT" All the correct forwarding was done on it to allow it, never had a problem with it before so found it odd. Tried just resetting the router in case was just a fault there, rebooting the Xbox too etc. Nothing seemed to work. I then hooked up my old flashed Netgear router I had since when I use to me with Sky. On that router you can use the LAN IP setup to set the Xbox up using its MAC address. Does the O2 router allow this like the Netgear one do?

Anyway Xbox works brilliant on this router, however the net did what it was doing on the O2 router before the firmware fixed that issue (see thread for details :P)

Any ideas?

Cheers

P.S - I added the openDNS servers to the router in the "basic settings" of the Netgear

Re: Wired desktop disconnecting

That suggests a problem with either the device you're connecting to or the actual cable...since you've had two different routers both exhibiting the fault, I'd suggest they're not the issue.

Got to say though that if you're into gaming the Netgear is a much better choice than the supplied O2 boxes mate.
