Hi Guys
I have just moved house and had o2 Pro installed. The Wireless III box is installed and working ok. I have purchased a Netgear WNDR3700 wireless router with a Netgear DM111P modem which I would like to use instead as I want the higher wireless speeds for HD Movie streaming etc. Unfortunately my initial attempts to get these two boxes working has failed, I am obviously doing something wrong! I initially connected the modem and attached a laptop on the ethernet port. I then connected to it via a web browser and set the mode to bridge and configured the VPI/VCI. I couldn't work out any way to test the connection at this point????? I rebooted the modem and attached the ethernet from it to the router, with a new cable from the router to the PC. I then configured what I thought was correct on the router but no connection! Could someone please help as I'm find this all a bit frustrating ![]() If you could confirm what settings I should set on both that would be a great help ![]() |

Re: Getting started with NetGear kit
Hi Blue,
Welcome to O2 & welcome to the forums. I'm not personally up to date on those specific devices, but as a rule I would suggest trying something along the lines of the following: Set up the Netgear DM111P so that it connects to the internet - you should be able to confirm that it has done this either by the lights on the front, or by connecting to the internet via the ethernet cable you used to configure it. Once you have confirmed it is connecting ok, I would change it's internal IP address to, say, 192.168.1.254 and turn on its DHCP if it has this facility. Next, connect to your WNDR3700 and give it the IP address of 192.168.1.253. Disable the DHCP server (I wouldn't worry too much about excluding addresses at this point as they are handed out from the bottom up and its not likely most homes have 250+ devices). The two devices should be connected to one another by an ethernet cable. With your computer plugged into the WNDR3700 by cable, confirm you can browse the web. Now configure your wifi device to connect to the WNDR3700. The usual steps will be required - configure security on your WNDR3700 wireless connection etc. I realise these steps are a bit generic but as I said earlier, I don't know the specific devices. The important things are that the two devices have their own IP addresses on the same range (192.168.1.253 and 192.178.1.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0) and that only one of them hands out DHCP addresses.

I did try and connect to the internet with just the modem, but I didn't see an internet connection light appear on it.
There didn't appear to be many config options on the modem, so I wasn't sure how to get it working for a single PC onto the internet? |

Re: Getting started with NetGear kit
There are instructions on here on exactly how to configure your own modem / router for use with O2.
Once you are happy with the settings - there should presumably be a page on your modem that has a connection summary somewhere telling you if it's connected or not, then you should be able to connect to the internet from the machine you're using to configure the modem. This of course, assumes you have the computer set to pick up a DHCP address from the router - otherwise you may be missing bits of the required configuration.

The PC is picking up DHCP, otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect to the modem web interface. |
