Access Points to extend the coverage from an O2 Wireless Box
Hi to all,
I have tried a number of differnet methods to extend the coverage from my O2 Wireless Box II including a Wireless Repeater (couldn't get it to work) & Powerline (problems with the complex rings mains in my house) so I have resporting to adding 2 Wireless Access Points that will be "cabled" back to the O2 Wireless Box II. Can anyone make any recommendations as to suitable Wilress Access Points. Ideally, i would like the Access Point to also have a cable connection as well as the wireless. Thanks in advance |

Re: Access Points to extend the coverage from an O2 Wireless Box
what you can do is use wireless routers to do this job
what you need to do is to assign the new wireless point an IP address in the same range as the O2 router on the routers that you want to use as wireless access points turn off DCHP and connect that up to the main o2 router with an ethernet cable. This means the wireless access point also has the ethernet connections. I found that there are a variety of routers avaliable on ebay for quite nice prices that would be up to this task. |

Re: Access Points to extend the coverage from an O2 Wireless Box
Don't the O2 boxes support wireless bridging? i.e. you can join a wireless AP to the router, wirelessly.
O2 guys...?

In my experience wireless bridging, repeating etc although gets your signal strength up drops the actual thoughput through the floor.
In my house I found it a whole lot easier and faster just putting an access point in the room that needs it rather than mucking about with bridges. |

Yeah I know to get it on a decent scale such as using Cisco's Enterprise MESH costs a fortune.
I'm fortunate that I get good coverage but also since my house is new and has good wiring, I can use powerline with good success. It was just a thought in case he needed to run the cables.
