Chaning noise(db) profile
Hey guys. These are my router stats:
DSL Connection Link Information Uptime: 0 days, 23:42:35 DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5 Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,239 / 9,826 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 305.60 / 2.73 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.4 / 19.0 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.3 / 38.5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 5.4 System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ---- Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): - Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 124 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 559,569 / 559,569 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 257 / 182 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 207 / 198 My problem is not with the internet itself as the speed is good and everything is running fine. The problem actually is with PES 2011 that shitty football game. Its lagging all over the place for most people and my brother thinks its our connection. During peak evening times my downstream noise margin will go down to 3db! but this does not cause any problems with download speed or upload speed as they remain the same. However i wonder whether the low noise margin may be a reason for lack of stability on the connection. So i would like to know i can adjust the noise margin myself(like with the old sky routers) just so i can convince my brother its not our connection. Any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT: I am Using the new o2 wireless router by the way guys. i think its the tg587n. I just plugged it in yesterday. Last edited by new02user; 13-10-10 at 05:07 PM.. |

Re: Chaning noise(db) profile
You'll find the info you need elsewhere on the forum but yes, you can prevent the noise margin dropping to 3db. However, I doubt that is causing the problems you describe.
So, to "fix" the noise margin yourself just reboot the router in the evening when it has dropped to 3db. It will restart at 6db at a slightly lower sync speed. Repeat if it drops again until it doesn't drop any more. OR Call O2 and ask them to put you on a 9db profile. Personally though, as I said before, I doubt a 3db noise margin is the issue - your connection looks fine and should cope with 3db just fine. I suspect it's just an overloaded game server or a routing bottleneck. When you're having this issue do you get it with anything else or just that game? And you're not connecting via wireless I hope? |

Re: Chaning noise(db) profile
Thanks for replying Saturday.
Im connected through ethernet wire. I actually did this manual way of getting the router to sync at a lower speed and its currently sync'd at about a meg below what was before. The noise margin still dropped to about 4db at one point but was generally between 5.0 and 6.1. I have been unable to use the DMT tool succesfully with this router it comes up with some sort of error so if you could assist me that would be very helpful. I ddi actually call o2 the other day but they were like "theres no problem with your line so we're not prepared to change anything" so i wonder whether one of the o2 staff on o2user may be able to assist me. Actually the connection doesn't drop and nor does the speed(through speedtests) it just seems to be a little unstable at the really low noise margins. Is there a connection with the noise margin and potential stability of the line IF speed is not being effect nor are there any dropouts? What exactly is a routing bottleneck? As i have a cheap getnet switch which connects all my ethernet wires perhaps thats causing the problems? |

Re: Chaning noise(db) profile
If you keep rebooting at the lowest noise margin, eventually it won't/can't drop any more.
Surprised at O2. I think they're probably right about no fault but usually they'll make changes if asked. Can't help you with the DMT and that router - google? Lagging is basically down to poor latency and while a poor connection can cause resends which affect latency, that isn't likely with your connection stats and you saying there is no apparent impact on speed tests. Use the ping command to measure ping times both when things are fine and when you have the lag. Ping to a decent server such as bbc.co.uk and to your game server. If bbc stays good but your game server goes bad then it's the game server. If both go bad then it is something else. The routing bottleneck issue I referred to was about possible issues with O2's network or beyond. It is possible though that your switch is struggling but unlikely I'd have thought. |

Re: Chaning noise(db) profile
Just to clarify the connection doesn't actually drop just the noise margin does. rebooting at the time when its lowest is a good method is agree.
However it is not always possible to do that as sometimes it will only go down to about 4.0 and will sync like it has now at about 8600kbps download and at night will drop again. Besides as you said the NM is probably not the problem as i've just been playing the game online while the noise margins over 7.0 and the lag is still there. I definitely think its the game. By the way this is the advice Konami are giving: PESFan.com Support - If you are experiencing lag while playing PES 2010 online i think they're just trying to cover their ass as they have shit servers. Pings are actually good and there is no loss of data as such but i do not know what the Konami servers are so i cannot ping them. If you know them please let me know. Thanks. |

Re: Chaning noise(db) profile
Doesn't the game offer you a choice of servers when you connect? If so, Google the IP address if not listed e.g. Google shows the IP address of their EU server in Dublin to be 79.125.87.186.

Re: Chaning noise(db) profile
I think there are different servers in the game but i don't know the IP addresses so i can't check.
Heres the results of two ping tests i have just done on Pingtest.net - The Global Broadband Quality Test Server in Italy ![]() Frankfurt ![]() On both the above tests it said: "Grade A excellent result- expect all applications to work correct if you have sufficient bandwidth"which i do. By the way the server closest to me on Pingtest.net - The Global Broadband Quality Test (maidenhead) and websites like google and bbc i have pinged through the cmd on run show a ping of 17-20ms and no loss of data. I think i have to blame the game. What do you think Saturday? Also here are latest router stats as of 17:13 today: DSL Connection Link Information Uptime: 0 days, 21:52:12 DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5 Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,252 / 8,893 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 654.49 / 3.99 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.4 / 19.0 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.2 / 38.0 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.6 / 7.3 System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ---- Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): - Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 125 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 972,124 / 972,124 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 221 / 151 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 134 / 180 The connection hasn't dropped out on me yet. its showing 21:52 as i rebooted it myself yesterday during peak time to get it to sync at a slightly slower speed. Thanks for your help so far. Last edited by new02user; 14-10-10 at 04:14 PM.. |
