Re: Help on Router Stats - good or bad!! Router is rebooting after a few days
Looks like O2 may have wasted a chunk of money by sending out a new router. If you're happy with 3db then fine. I wouldn't be as with that great connection the data throughput will be immense and I'd prefer a bit more noise margin to play with. O2 have a default noise margin of 6/6db or 6.5/6.5db (seems to vary with some customers). Normal variation would be +/- 2db depending on what time of day the router was rebooted and the line quality. You'll find plenty of info in our tutorial section. Last edited by Saturday; 12-11-10 at 01:57 PM.. |

Re: Help on Router Stats - good or bad!! Router is rebooting after a few days
A simple, if crude analogy would be to think of trying to hold a conversation in a noisy room. If the volume of background noise is too close the the volume of the conversation you are trying to listen to then you'll miss the odd word and may struggle to make sense or have to ask the person to repeat what they said. Once the noise margin on a router gets to 3db or below it is going to start to struggle to differentiate between data and noise.
