Adding Access point to my O2 Wireless Box II

Hi to all,

I have tried a number of differnet methods to extend the coverage from my O2 Wireless Box II including a Wireless Repeater / Bridge (couldn't get it to work) & Powerline (problems with the complex rings mains in my house) so I have resorted to adding 2 Wireless Access Points that will be "cabled" back to the O2 Wireless Box II.

Can anyone make any recommendations as to suitable Wilress Access Points. Ideally, i would like the Access Point to also have a cable connection as well as the wireless.

Thanks in advance

Re: Adding Access point to my O2 Wireless Box II

This is fairly easy to accomplish but might be cheaper using bog standard DSL routers such as the Netgear.

If you have any from other ISPs hanging around, then you can use them.

Just follow these steps:
  • Make sure that only one box is a DHCP server. In the other two, disable this funtion
  • Let's assume your existing router has the IP address of 192.168.1.254 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, give one of the new routers an IP address of 192.168.1.253 and the other one the address of 192.168.1.252. Both would need a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a default gateway of 192.168.1.254 (you start at the top with networking kit and work down, because DHCP starts at the bottom and works up)
  • Enable the WiFio on each router, and give it the same SSID, encryption (type and key) and consider changing the channel
  • That's about it.
