Yes, line stats would be helpful (one set "normal" and one set connected to your test socket if you have one), plus a description of how the router is connected to the phone line, what else is plugged in and how your pc is connected to the router.

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 421,975
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 17
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 3,860 / 8

CONNECTED TO OTHER SOCKET

Uptime: 0 days, 0:01:50
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,174 / 3,436
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 32.0 / 55.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 3.0 / 4.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM

Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 298,239
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 109
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 3,865 / 33

The router, in both instances is connected via the DSL cable provided, and plugged into a microfilter. Due to the locations of the sockets within the house, our only option is to be connected wirelessly.

Re: o2 broadband problem

What is the "other" socket? Are either of those master sockets and does your master socket have a test socket (behind the faceplate)?

Both sockets are giving a similar connection. Your sync is 3.4meg on an attenuation of 55.5db which is about right - or would be if your noise margin was at default.

Have you asked O2 at some time to reduce your noise margin? For a fairly high attenuation line like yours a 3db profile needs a very clean/quiet line if you're not to get problems. I suspect at least some of your problems would go away if you were on the default noise margin of 6db. One thing I can see in your stats is that your CRC errors are very high for such short duration connections. Assuming that those levels are correct, those CRC errors are indicative of line noise. A higher noise margin will reduce these.

So, my first guess is that your problems are due to line noise exacerbated by a low noise margin. There could however be issues also arising from your wireless connection.

To get the best possible connection I would recommend:
  • moving back to a normal noise margin profile
  • cleaning up your phone wiring and fitting an ADSL filter plate to your master
  • connecting your router to your master socket
  • buying a powerline adaptor to connect your PC to your router (if ethernet isn't possible).
