My Router Stats - Is Everythin OK ? Slow Speeds
I've been with o2 a couple of years on the "Standard Package" £7.50 and my speed use to be about 3.7 meg with the o2 v2 router.
I've changed nothing and my speeds went terrible and web pages not loading etc. I was about to upgrade to the latest firmware but then noticed I already had it, I done a reset using a pen, and it was still the same. It had been like this since just before Xmas really, I think it's the new firmware. Anyway I'd had enough and started using my own Netgear DG834g router (ex sky) What a difference, web pages load no problem and is trouble free but I'm still only getting 1.9meg on speedtests but not near 3.7 meg i use to. I'm 3km or 4.5km by road from the exchange I remember o2 originally quoting i should get 6 meg My router stats are below - THANKS FOR LOOKING ![]() |

Re: My Router Stats - Is Everythin OK ? Slow Speeds
5 meg would be quite possible with that attenuation so the problem is line noise.
You need to do a comparison with your test socket (if you have one) to determine whether the noise is arising in your home wiring or the BT line. |

Noise looks very bad
Maybe call o2 up and ask them to move you to a faster SNR profile? |

Re: My Router Stats - Is Everythin OK ? Slow Speeds
I've just been on the phone to o2, they agree my speeds use to average over 4 meg, they done something and now I'm getting 2.5 meg a increase from 1.8 meg.
They said the speeds have dropped at the exchange to 3.8meg so the speeds I'm currently getting are quite good. Anyone know why the speeds at the exchange would drop so much ? and for so long(been well before Christmas) I'm back on my o2 router after them doing a reset at their end, which apparantly does more than a reset on the back of the router. My speeds seem to be up n down n all over the place at the mo, sometimes as much as 2.5 other times as low as 0.5 |

Re: My Router Stats - Is Everythin OK ? Slow Speeds
I'm back on my o2 router - I've just checked my router stats and have alot of errors, I phoned o2 but they didn't seem to understand.
What do you think ? Would the new Master Socket & Faceplate help ? Re: My Router Stats - Is Everythin OK ? Slow Speeds
Depends where the noise is arising - can't hurt though.
As I said before, you need to do a comparison using your test socket (if you have one) as that will show you what improvement is possible, without you possibly wasting money on new sockets/wiring. |

Thanks for the reply
I don't have a proper master socket, My main socket is like this www.biggleszx.com/doublesocket.jpg but without the power socket next to it. On the back, 3 connections go into 2 & 5 - The BT Main Line A Extension Upstairs (not used) A Extension to my router & sky box |

Yeah its worth ago but thats allot better than you where getting for sure and the errors well unless you're getting disconnected don't worry about them.

Also, if you're using an extension to connect your router, my bet is that is likely to be the main part of the problem. Router + extension = bad news. And if you are also connecting a sky box into that extension . . . Ideally you'd have a master that could take a filtered faceplate which would look after the extensions. Then connect your router directly to the master and run either ethernet to your PC or use a powerline adaptor. If that's not possible then your options to reduce line noise are limited. One thing you could consider though is disconnecting your ring wire. This can sometimes fix much of the problem and costs nothing. However, as noted by Epyon, your speeds aren't too bad now, (for your attenuation), so if the line errors aren't impacting your connection, (slow throughput and/or disconnections), then don't worry about them. Re: My Router Stats - Is Everythin OK ? Slow Speeds
Thanks for the replies
I've just got BT Openreach Master Socket from a M8 and I've ordered a Austin Taylor Faceplate. I'll have a go at fitting the Master Socket at the weekend, I've unplugged the sky box and the ring/bell wire has always ben disconnected. My speeds are all over the place to be honest, they seem to be averaging 2.5meg but Youtube was really slow before, buffering etc. I done a speed test and was gettin 0.35 meg Last edited by Aletank; 16-02-11 at 09:34 PM.. |
