Hi All,
I'm new to the forum, so take it easy if any mistakes have been made in the request for help. I have a SIP phone that i am trying to connect through my o2 broadband service. The phone is configured correctly and i am able to make outbound calls, however i can receive incoming calls - Apparently because the phone is not registering with the proxy server. In order to allow it connect i need to open the port "5060". So i have logged in to my router by through the cmd screen (MS DOS) >Telnet 192.168.1.254 Entered username and Password then entered >connection unbind application=SIP port=5060 however i get the error message "failed to delete CONN binding" -- I have tried to use the o2 interface and add game sharing and still have had no luck. It seems the port cannot be open. And o2 are useless as they cannot provide any help what so ever. I have looked through the net to find the same solution, which seems to have worked for some people and not for some. It seems that o2 wireless box II ( thomson TG 585) comes with the SIP disabled for some reason. I am thinking i should change the router maybe, but having plugged another thomson router in, just to check if i get a connection - i cant get the router to connect to the network for some reason. The second thomson router is working 100%, but cant configure it to work on this. So my concern is, if go and buy a new router that might not configure to the network. ANy help is much appreciated. Thank you D |

Re: Cannot connect a SIP Device Through O2 wireless Box II
I used that box successfully with an Asterisk server for about two years.
Just configure firewall rules to forward the port ranges. Also try using STUN if you can. Depends on which service provider you have for your VoIP as some add on different ports, but the standards are: Port 5060 TCP and UDP Port 5004 UDP Port 10000 UDP (if you use Sipgate Stun service - otherewise it's usually 3478/9) Ports 16348-32768 UDP (RTP, RTCP multimedia streaming) Having said that, I didn't need to forward the huge 16348 range. If you are new to SIP, I can fully recommend Sipgate - you get a free geographical (01xxx) number, inbound calls are free, free softphone and voicemail to email etc) and you can get 5000 minutes a month for about £6. I have used them since 2004 when they first came into the UK and apart from my Asterisk system, I have a 'personal' geographic number that recruitment agencies, banks, telemarketers etc have so my normal land line is always kept free. My personal line diverts straight to voicemail and is then forwarded by email as an attachment.

Re: Cannot connect a SIP Device Through O2 wireless Box II
Hi,
Thanks for your response. But although my post sounds like i know what i'm doing - i am quite new to the whole technical side of things. So all you have wrote at the beginning of your post doesn't make any sense to me. As how to go about changing things. I am using Vioptalk.org - the service costs £9.99 per month and i get unlimited outbound - o1,02, calls. Plus a 01 incoming number. - I am using them as i get unlimited outbound calls really - so if you can sugggest someone else who does that i can try them. Or if anyone give instructions to opne the correct port. Thanks |

Re: Cannot connect a SIP Device Through O2 wireless Box II
Sorry - I did think you were very technical from your original post: not many O2 users would know about changing the router from telnet as a rule.
Unfortunately, I don't use my O2 router any more so I can't give you the step-by-step instructions I would normally do. If you head off over to PortForward.com - Port Forwarding Guides Listed by Manufacturer and Model though, they have great instructions for most kinds of router and application combination. And even if SIP isn't there, you could put in something else and just substitute the correct ports where necessary. The unlimited calls for less than a tenner is pretty impressive, actually, but I'd still have a quick look at Sipgate - sipgate.co.uk - free phone service over your broadband link - voice over ip provider. - it may turn out a bit cheaper and it is totally free to sign up. They also provide a free, preconfigured with all of your settings, soft phone.

Re: Cannot connect a SIP Device Through O2 wireless Box II
Sorry - my box was the version III not II so it was a 780WL.
Might also be worth a call to O2 to see if you can get an updated router?

Re: Cannot connect a SIP Device Through O2 wireless Box II
Here you go: PortForward.com - Port Forwarding Voip.com on the Thomson-Alcatel SpeedTouch585
It's not specifically for VoIPTalk, but just add in any additional ports not listed.
