Sudden slow speeds
I'm on the so-called Premium package (20meg download, unlimited downloads) and everything was fine until about 3 weeks ago. I was getting a constant 16mbps download speed with a sync speed of about 19mbps. However 3 weeks ago this suddenly feel to between 3mbps and 8 mbps at most and is very variable. Watching iPlayer, for example, is nigh on impossible without lags, breaks, etc.
Many, many calls to O2 and their 2nd line support have resulted in: 1. numerous line tests 2. new router 3. a lift-and-switch at the exchange But still I get the same speeds on downloads. Now O2 are running yet another 24 hour line test in the vague hope of finding something that the previous 4 didn't. Anyone else had sudden download speed drop-offs of late? I'm getting bored of having to call up O2 pretty much every day to get an update, only to be told that they will perform a line test and see what happens. |

Re: Sudden slow speeds
Can't really comment without seeing your router stats (attenuation, noise margin and sync) from your normal connection point AND your test socket.
It looks like O2 have spent a lot of effort and money ruling out a line/exchange/equipment fault. Chances are that the problem lies in your home wiring - it does in most cases. |

Re: Sudden slow speeds
Don't think home wiring is at fault. Everything was fine for a long time with no changes to any home wiring and then the low speeds kicked in. Nothing has changed with home wiring at all. Now they are just doing - another- line test and in the meantime any actual speeds are getting slower and slower.

Re: Sudden slow speeds
Still having the issue and it's getting worse.
And still the same replies from O2: we have an engineer looking at at, call tomorrow for an update. FOR A MONTH I've been doing this. Seems like they're now playing cat-and-mouse with Openreach who are, allegedly, replacing bits of hardware at the exchange in an attempt to figure out why the line is slow (and getting slower). The noise/attenuation stats are meanginless atm as they are being constantly reset by O2 during their tests. |
