Re: McAfee security
and considering MS themselves admit that about 50% of Windows XP users out there are using a pirated copy and therefore can't patch up their PC makes the criminal gangs eager to get viruses out there.

Re: McAfee security
I don't understand people wanting to use pirated copies of software these days.
It's not like, say, when Windows 95 came out and there were really no viable options. Now there are umpteen variations of Linux for free, there is an Office 2007 compatible, free, version in Open Office. Maybe I am missing something, but I don't get the whole something for nothing (as in stealing, not free alternatives) culture? |

Re: McAfee security
me neither and considering you could pick up an OEM copy of windows XP befre Xmas for £60 cost also shouldn't come into it now.
Oh well each to their own. |

Re: McAfee security
Can I just get back to McAfee for a moment?
I've taken all your comments on board, plus my own thoughts and removed all of McAfeel. I've installed (once again) Avast and ZA and my pc seems a lot happier. McAfee didn't seem stop any virus' from being activated nor inform me when/if they were found-my floppy disk rattling-plus my pc was acting very wierd. It only found them when I did a scan-not good-plus it auto quarantined them, so thought that they'd been dealt with, but on installing and running Avast it found 4 virus'! yes, 4! but by then it was too late so have had to reformat my pc and, as said, put Avast & ZA back on. So think you were all right about McAfee- thanks ![]() |
