Re: Should i be getting more?
Your sync is low for your attenuation, your noise margin is at the default level, so you probably have a problem with a noisy line i.e. if that's the case it is nothing to do with O2 and there's nothing they could do directly to improve things for you.
To determine whether the noise is arising in your home wiring or in the BT line you need to do a comparison connection using the test socket which is hidden inside your master socket (assuming it isn't an old style master). Post the results. If you're able to fix the noise issue then your attenuation should support ~11meg. Edit: Hmm. I notice also that you are syncing at ADSL2 not ADSL2+, which is odd and it could be that line noise isn't the issue (or not the only issue). What firmware are you running and have you inadvertently set the wrong ADSL mode? If so, select ADSL2+ and see if that helps at all. What sync do you get using the O2 Wireless Box? Re: Should i be getting more?
hi mate
i will try all the settings and will post when im back home 2moro. im using the old v1 sky router and i followed the method of re flashing the router to default then updated it to the latest one on the netgear site so i am not sure how i may have set adsl2 if you can explain how i could set it to adsl2+ i will test it as soon as im home. with both routers thanks Last edited by Saturday; 01-02-09 at 08:46 AM.. Re: Should i be getting more?
The standard Netgear firmware doesn't allow you to change ADSL mode. It defaults to "multimode" i.e. it allows the exchange equipment to determine the mode to use. Modified firmwares such as DGteam will allow you to change mode so my earlier comments were in case you had used something like this.
The question therefore is why are you connecting with ADSL2 rather than ADSL2+? There are basically three possible reasons:
The comparison tests I recommended earlier may give further clues. Of particular interest will be if the O2 Box syncs at a significantly higher speed and if, using the Netgear, the test socket gives either a significantly higher sync or noise margin. If that proves to be the case then it would be interesting to see if the Netgear has been able to sync ADSL2+ with the test socket. |

Re: Should i be getting more?
Hi
i did some testing in the test socket but it still comes up with similar stats im using the o2 box atm and here are my current stats Uptime: 0 days, 17:10:57 DSL Type: G.992.3 annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,243 / 5,107 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 24.0 / 40.0 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.0 / 6.5 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 5 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 5 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 686 / 37,889 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 686 / 370 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 16,930 / 346 is there any thing on there which could be hindering my speeds? |

Re: Should i be getting more?
The main problem is you have a noisy line. If your sync/noise margin is similar in your test socket with nothing else plugged in, then the noise is probably down to your BT line. Also, check that with the test socket in use, no hardwired extensions work. If they're not disconnected when the faceplate is off then there could be a mis-wiring.
The other issue, which may be of no consequence, but could be resulting from your line noise, is that you are connecting ADSL2 not ADSL2+, irrespective of the router used. You could give O2 a call and ask them to experiment with G.DMT and ADSL2+ to see if either gives you a better sync (that's assuming your line condition will support ADSL2+) - G.DMT often gives a slightly better connection with a poor line.. but hes change the noise margin to 3 from 6db to try and make the speed increase here is the current stats now: Uptime: 0 days, 0:02:17 DSL Type: G.992.3 annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,330 / 5,810 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.0 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 24.0 / 40.5 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 4.0 / 3.5 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 28 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0 Last edited by r3p; 02-02-09 at 07:47 PM.. |

Re: Should i be getting more?
Oh dear - looks like you got an agent that needs better training.
![]() G.DMT is also known as G.992.1, ADSL, or less accurately ADSL1. ADSL2 (G.992.3) is not the same as ADSL2+ (G.992.5). ![]() With a noisy line, lowering the noise margin to increase your sync is just plain stupid. I'd be surprised if that doesn't give you connection problems. If I were you I'd call again and get through to an agent who has a better appreciation of the issues. Get back on a 6db profile and maybe a different ADSL mode if that helps things. BUT, changing ADSL mode is likely to give only a little or possibly no improvement. The key issue you have is line noise. That's not something that O2 can help you with. Last edited by Saturday; 02-02-09 at 09:41 PM.. |

Re: Should i be getting more?
when you use a corded phone do you hear pops and crackles? If so you could get BT to investigate but at no time ever mention broadband just say that the voice connection is bad.
