Sky too O2 on the 10th

Hi,

I recenently decided to migrate to O2 from Sky and im due to connect on the 10th Feb.

I have to admit i have not had any issues with Sky Broadband where i was on the Max package. Due to the recent price increase I decided to take the plunge with O2 due to there superior upload speeds.

Anyway im after a little info as to what speeds id expect to get from my line if possible.

My currnet line stats with Sky are:

Connection Speed 16381 kbps 797 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.5 db 15.1 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 14.5 db

Any help is appreciated.

Paul

Re: Sky too O2 on the 10th

If you've chosen to go on Annex A then with O2's standard 6db profile you can expect something around 17000kbps down and 1250kbps up. If you've chosen Annex M then maybe 16000kbps down and 2300kbps up.

Hard to be completely accurate with a prediction though when moving providers.

The biggest difference you'll notice between Sky and O2 is O2's excellent communication and customer service. Other than the upstream, speeds are pretty similar.

Re: Sky too O2 on the 10th

Thanks for the reply, When i signed up i did not get the option of Annex A or M. Is this something that DLM decides or do i have to contact O2.

I have to be honest i would prefer to have the extra upload speed then the extra meg or 2 of download speed.

cheers

Premium gives up to 1.3Mb up, Pro gives up to 2.5Mb up. Just the contract you pick.

I'm not sure how O2 does it actually as not all lines will be able to carry Annex M.

Your line is pretty good so hopefully you'll go straight on it. If not all you need to do is call O2 (0800 number and generally no queues ) and they'll switch it on.

Note that Annex M will lower your downstream by a meg or so.

Re: Sky too O2 on the 10th

Hi,

I was connected today at about 1700 hrs and all seems to be running smoothly

Here are my stats 2 hours into DLM:

DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,347 / 17,214

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 64.34 / 152.91

I have 2 questions if anyone could answer them please.

1. I have gone throught the sticky for attempting to log into the superuser account within the router. Is this different for the Wireless III box as the username and password does notwork.

2. As you can see i am currently on Annex A, when i signed up i chose the Pro pacakage and thought id be on Annex M. I have rang O2 and the helpfull chap on the phone said that it would stay at A untill DLM has run its course, is this correct?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Paul

No, same on the WBIII as the WBII.

Username (SuperUser) is case sensitive i.e. capital S and U, password (O2Br0ad64nd) is also case sensitive and has digits 2064, with the first O & B being capital letters.

Not heard that before but it makes sense.

If you ever had cause to call Sky, I bet you found calling O2 a different experience.

Re: Sky too O2 on the 10th

Yes, could not believe the way they went out of there way to help me out, a CS that is actually trying to be a service its amazing .

I still have issue with the SuperUser login, when i type 192.168.1.254 i log straight into router with no username or password required. The option i see after that is to switch user which is where i enter the login info you supplied, but this just leaves me logged in as administrator.

Sorry if im being thick and thanks for reply
