Wireless network dropping
I'm experiencing random Wireless network drops, is there any logging in the router I can see why?
Its a PITA particaular when copying large files. I have a NAS hard wired to the router and I'm copying a 8GB file over, its almost as if there are line errors and the router crashes (I can see the lights change). I can see a Sky wireless network in range so wondering if we are conflicting on the same Channel maybe? Also whats with the "ThompsonXXXXXX" unsecured network? It has the same SSID as my O2 wireless box .Cheers |

Re: Wireless network dropping
Certainly sounds like wireless interference, possibly another wireless router nearby but could easily be another source. All you can do is ensure your router is up off the floor, away from any other electrical items (particularly Dect phones, video senders etc) and large metallic objects too. Then start working through the wireless channels, starting at 13 to see if any give a better quality signal. In the end though, wireless is a poor method to connect and with increasing use of the available spectrum, can only get worse.
Not sure I follow your comment about the unsecured network? Where are you seeing this entry? Your O2 wireless box is a Thomson TG585. Have you turned wireless encryption off? |

Re: Wireless network dropping
can a wireless keyboard and mouse (operating at 2.4Ghz) near the router cause wifi drop outs?

always connectedt 13mb but flucuating from 10mb-1mb or less on speed testers , drops every 5-10mins pages not loading etc, im wired now dowloads are stable and never lost connection, even peak times its perfect no slowdown at all, |

Re: Wireless network dropping
Yup I am afraid powerline homeplugs are the way to go, there is so much stuff sitting on thw 2.4 Ghz it frightening, let alone all the millions of wi-fi routers.
Wireless is a no go in our area. |

Re: Wireless network dropping
I'd stay away from the wireless homeplugs they don't seem to be that great.
What you can do is connect a wireless access point to the homeplug and run it on a different channel to the router. Or turn wireless off on the router and move the settings over to the wireless access point. I have seen cheap wireless access points in CEX for £6 or less. |
