fixed wiring, changed router, phoned 02 can i squeeze more?

Connected to 02 initally at 11mb on the 12th. after a few few hiccups i had a look at the wiring last night (what a mess!) I'm hooked to the master but there's also 5 other extensions in my house which all are wired up. none of which work (new build) i removed all extenstions and the bell wire, small improve maybe half a mb or so. I called 02 and mentioned the wiring had been a mess and now i have rectifyed it, i said because DLM had already finished would it be worth running it again, he checked my SNR and said he could try some adjustments, Rebooted at 14701. He then stated my line is cabaple todo upto 18mb depending on stability.
I just plugged up my old sagem which i flashed which confirms what hes says

Quote:
Mode: ADSL2+
Line Coding: Trellis On
Status: No Defect
Link Power State: L0

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB): 3.2 3.4

Attenuation (dB): 32.5 15.8

Output Power (dBm): 12.4 18.9

Attainable Rate (Kbps): 18361 1300

Rate (Kbps): 14701 1295
and stats beofre wiring and call

Quote:
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,204 / 11,582

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 16.0 / 31.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 6.5
however why I am not reaching the attainable rate?

The attainable rate is the maximum potential rate you can get.

In simple terms, when the router negotiates its connection with the exchange equipment is analyses the available frequencies on the line and determines what is possible. It then divides those available frequencies into potentially hundreds of separate pots then further analyses how much each pot can take i.e. if there is noise present at particular frequencies then those pots can't take much signal - in some cases, none at all.

A shortfall between the actual sync and the attainable sync is a reflection of the particular noise characteristics of your line and your router's ability (or inability) to make full use of the available frequencies. A tool such as DMT may well show you graphically what is actually going on with your line.

BTW, did the agent say he was going to put you on a 3db profile? It looks like you're on one.

I'm guessing you're on a 3db profile looking at your noise margin, but it could just be normal variation (though moving from 6db to 3db is quite a large swing). The way to tell would be to reboot your router and see what the noise margin is straight afterwards.

A 3db profile means the router has very little margin to play with. This is fine with a high quality line but can be problematical with low(ish) quality lines. See how you go. If you feel it is giving you problems give them a call and get moved back.
